    Hi, I'm CYBER. I don't remember when I joined LS-RP (2009? 10? 11?), but the server cap was around 200-250 and mall was not yet a thing. That year there was a huge New Year's party at Alahambra and a dance contest with Sultan and Elegy going to the winners. I did not win. Was it rigged?

As I read this, I remembered my first year at university when we were studying "Introduction to Jurisprudence" and I started applying the law to anything and anyone I thought was unlawful or unjust. (Do not take this as a criticism, if anything it just underscores the high moral standards you possess (unless you are using this topic to have some sort of personal gain or get back at someone)) A player personally contacting an admin via DM would only create a chaotic situation where most admins handling the report would be biassed, as contacting an admin you already know and have some sort of relationship with would be an obvious way to somehow influence the outcome of the report. While it is true that admins and staff in general have different kind of trust within the community, the human faction should still be considered. You have compared the administration to a LEO that is not on duty. It has already been mentioned why this is not an appropriate comparison, but I will offer you another comparison and try to justify it. In most countries there is a constitutional review and thus a constitutional court, the highest instance of court. The constitutional judge is appointed, and all three branches of government (executive - legislative - judicial) are involved in the selection process. As a rule, there are nine (9) judges in total. This judges are treated differently from ordinary people. Even if police officers observe a constitutional judge shooting randomly at people in the middle of a busy street, they cannot arrest him. They have something called "judicial immunity". Well. Normally you can not sue a constitutional judge either, you can only do that in the constitutional court in the presence of other judges. This is done to protect the judges from ordinary people and to ensure their freedom from undue influence. Needless to say, I would personally compare admins to constitutional judges. I have never been reported by an admin, so here's my take on it. An admin should have some authority, otherwise neither their judgement nor their word will be respected in a given situation. Losing that authority would mean that the admin in question should either resign or take radical measure when they encounter a rule breaker, which would negatively impact us (players) and the overall trust within the community. Taking reports in a "Report Player" area would obviously shake that authority, because.. 1 - We would be dragging the admin down to the level of an ordinary player, and even if one of his/her reports was unsuccessful, that would already bring us to (see below)... 2 - The admin's competence or incompetence would be displayed to the whole community. With authority now shaken, the admins would begin to distance themselves from the regular players. At this stage we would get two groups. Players and Admins. Admins would naturally empathize with their colleagues as they can relate to them more, they would start deciding the outcomes of these reports in favor of other admins with the expectation that the admin they previously supported would also support them in return if the need arose. In extreme cases, groups would also form within the admin team where each admin would be sympathetic to at least one admin and a certain group of regular players. I will not break this part down because in both cases we would get skewed results not only in reports of admins vs. players, but also players vs. players. This would mean the end of the server. On a side note. When one is part of a situation that escalates, one's judgment most likely becomes subjective and moves away from an objective view. For someone to recognize that and act on it doesn't happen every day. That's not to say their judgment is flawed, but when they have the choice to handle the situation themselves instead of reporting it to another administrator, and they choose the latter option, that's an impressive personal trait. Respect + Edit: Your question could have been answered from other perspectives. There is the issue of equality vs. equity, right wing vs. left wing, etc. No matter which road I would take as destination would remain unchanged.
  9. I thought it was obvious that I was not talking about PGers, NON-RPer, or anyone else. Rather, I'm evaluating two people with different types of /me's. Otherwise, of course, I agree that there is more to an RPer than emotes. Thanks for pointing it out. ^^
  10. Example 1. /me wonders why Francis looks at him while tying his shoes. Then he remembers the conversation they had two days ago in discord, and nods at him with a smile Example 2. /me narrows his eyes as he stares at Francis, he arches his eyebrow slightly and looks back and forth between his hands and his face. -/me smiles after a few seconds and tilts his head as a sign of approval. Which of these is right? I remember when the /me command was first introduced, it was described as an action of the character, while /do was used to describe the result of a particular action against the player. It should also be noted that each type of trait was often represented in /me instead of /do, as opposed to how we do it now. Example: /me pisses/pisses on (character) which was often followed by a question /do s/f? and then the player could answer either /do s (success) or /do f (failure) ((/me was also mostly used in this very form)) I have seen this kind of RP as well, including from people I never thought would do such a thing. I considered writing a guide, but then changed my mind, since they probably did not even read the rules before creating their characters, and thus the guide would only be seen by players who already know how to use the command properly. Instead, I have given instructions in PMs, and honestly I have never seen any of these players take the advice negatively, and they seems pretty open to learning as well. I still find it amusing when I see /me's such as /me looks very confident in his new jacket, or /me lets out a heavy sigh as he remembers his ex-wife. I love how people think others know about either their new jacket or their confidence, about what they are thinking or feeling. I love how these players go out of their way to make sure everyone knows, and they also do it in /me and no /ame or /melow. Well. I personally think that the use of /me /do /ame /my etc.. Is just to enhance roleplay experience and then already tell a story, but it should also be noted that the story needs to be told to... What I'm saying is that you don't often write /me commands when you're alone in your house in the mornings or when you first spawn to drink your coffee, Although when you go out you might RP that your character had a coffee in the morning. This is because you need other players to tell your story to, otherwise you'd be playing single player and not multiplayer. So it should be noted that other players will never know what your character is thinking about, or if he has an ex-partner, or if he misses him or not. Presenting these details in /me isn't only a misuse of /me commands, but in extreme cases can open doors for MG as I or anyone else would have no way of knowing the feelings or stories of others, and I'd have no sufficient reason to use this information IC and thus it makes the story you tell with such a /me worthless to those who read it. Your story doesn't make mine wrong. Simple enough to understand. Your story matters to me only as I tell mine. We're all storytellers, equals yet different, no more and no less. Somehow I feel like I'm being tested on whether or not I'll MG - I already took the test during account creation, now it's your turn to read the rules and do the same. When you do, please also read 02. Metagaming. If this is about discussing the validity of the rule itself, then I'm sorry for misunderstanding it. - RP has evolved over the years and this might as well be a new change - so it may be my fault for not understanding it. But you are definitely not mediocre roleplayers, I know this because I'm low to mid level myself. My standard for a high level roleplayer is a person who successfully plays deaf and dumb, using /me - /do commands according to the current rules and in the usual way. Not /me thinks. I know I'm far from that. /me smiles as he stands up, he raises the cup in his hand and smiles - he looks confident ---- That's more or less OK for me.

Waited at least 30 minutes to get on the server.. Year or so later, mall became famous and everyone moved from Idlestack to Mall - giving birth to Mallrats. Good times

I hope I'm not going off topic here, but - If the goal is to give characters reasons to go to court, and we agree that long term prison time is more of a player based punishment - "AFK in prison" - Lets punish a character instead. Ex-convicts have their own problems. Anyway, I lean more towards probation/juvenile probation and rehabilitation. Probationary officers can also bring something new to the server and it can be made so that LEO's and Gangs can have different types of encounters, in addition to what they already have. Of course, this is only if we make it mandatory for Prob officer to be accompanied by a LEO. - That may also help us move away from this cops and robbers narrative (Respect to Crazybob's CnP though). Back to the problem - To get rid of the restrictions all together - we would need DOJ. As court can remove restrictions on a frozen bank account. Also, the restriction is just for example, it can be done on Veh License, Rights to purchase vehicles, houses - register companies or businesses, etc. All this of course for limited period of time, as I don't think it's fair if this kind of restriction exceeds one month (In the most severe cases ((999 minutes in prison))). So at the end of the day, I think that RP encounters between PD/SD - GOV (Or whoever probationary officers will be under) - Gang, will increase. +Long term and "felt" character consequences. I am not very sure about bank restriction however, as it has its strong and weak suits. It is pretty hard for ex-convicts to find a job. If bank accounts are frozen, they'd be "forced" to find some ways to get paid, cash only, as at some point they may need to replenish their bank balance - [To pay the rent, loan etc]. Now in theory it may have some effect on business and overall economy. 1- Weapon exchange rate may reduce - because of lack of usable money for ex-convicts. ... Or increase - Because of stocked up guns that can be sold. 2- Staff for business openings may be easier to find {Attempt to revive few businesses] - As businesses are allowed to give out salary in cash. 3- Robbery rate may increase, also those people who spend time fishing - We all have been there... Effects of this can be drastic however, also it must be argued that it may not change anything and people won't be willing to go through that hassle (contacting the court, etc) Just to remove some restrictions. However, I think, it will have a little less backlash compared to changing hours with days. So idk xD
  13. I roleplay a civilian and don't bother dialing 911 anymore unless I need an ambulance and know someone is on duty. Objectively speaking, I've mostly enjoyed RPing with PD, to me they seem more strict and more cautious than SD, which can be explained by their encounters with gangs in the city, etc. However, out of (I don't know how many) calls, only my first ever call was an answered one. There was also one evening when I dialed 911 at least 4-5 times in a row (there were over 20 PD/SD on duty at the time) and then found a couple of officers talking on duty near the stations. Had to address them and report a crime directly to get a response. I'm sure there are millions of problems that I don't know or understand, and I'm also sure, those who work in PD/SD can come up with another million excuses as to why they can't always respond to 911 calls - This post is meant to address the problems, not list excuses. With all honesty, I would probably follow the same pattern, if I was in your shoes. It's just that, from my perspective, it looks different. I also noticed that you are more likely to be stopped when the player base is small and there are only a few officers on duty than when there are more than 5 officers on duty. I personally would categorize this as "Bored Cop" RP. This is generally a questionable issue and I hate to bring it up here, as it is very hard to distinguish IC characteristics and background of the cop and OOC boredom of the player. 98% of my RP experiences with PD were wonderful, even if some of the encounters felt like provocations, character development and effort could have been felt. But we are all human and we remember negative emotions much better than positive ones. That being said, when I hear PD, the first thing that comes to mind is that 2 percent.
  14. I believe this must be discussed with the illegal roleplayers, those people whose gameplay will be affected if this goes through. And unfortunately the majority of the comments come from legal RPers. Legal RPers are often victimized by gang/mafia roleplayers. Being robbed or being the victim of a blind bullet in a bar shootout has become more or less commonplace. I also agree that all of our stories are intertwined, but we are the final storytellers for our characters. And at this point in time, I would argue that if I am the victim of a blind bullet in a bar shooting and the shooter is arrested [with the current system], it has the same consequence for both of us (it may be more drastic for him). I will RP a gun wound or type /respawnme and minutes later act like nothing has happened. He, on the other hand, has to stand there "AFK" and check in every 15 minutes or so to avoid being kicked. I totally agree with you that a prison sentence should not be an OOC punishment/timeout. However, I also agree with the statement that "it's just a game", "I only have 2 hours per night to play, I don't want to waste time in prison". That being said, with this proposal, even thought it may seem like you are offering a solution to this problem, [Bring more RP to DOJ perhaps], in fact you potentially increase the time of the very "OOC Penalty" you try to prevent. I just think we shouldn't discourage people from doing illegal RP(Or any type of RP tbh, Be who you want to be, that's the idea of roleplay). Consequences should be much harsher, I agree - but it also shouldn't encourage people to die to police just to avoid arrest. I think these two topics are directly proportional and it'll only lead to more shootings instead of reducing them. Overall, I think there are legitimate concerns and good points. The idea itself is brilliant, especially the parole system as it opens up doors for probation as well. It's just that, I'm not so sure that the proposed solutions address the problem at hand.
  15. Maybe just get ready for GTA6 RP? I mean.. Why dig in the past when we can get ready for the future. SAMP is a dead horse. GTA 5 is going to be one soon enough. As about GTA6. It has way brighter future than GTA5 ever had. So maybe it can be beneficial to directly start preparing for GTA6? Work on our characters at this current moment. Develop them and then switch to "Vice City" with already developed characters. If we won't have to pump the money on the server and have couple of businesses set up so that new players can directly dive into RPing with companies that would be awesome. If not, than we build again. Dunno...

    Respect for honestly, for what it's worth. Since 2011, I have never considered roleplaying anywhere else, as I believe the RP standard within the community is what sets LS-RP apart from other servers. As for scripts and mods. Please consider adding the scripts that complement players creating RP for others. Since they rarely speak up or ask for anything, there is still much that you can do for them. Because if they become inactive, the rest will follow. Other than that. Kudos to the business owners who keep opening constantly. Hope you guys succeed and my RP career won't have to end here.   18. Play Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 and I loved it. I have Witcher 3 installed, but I have never even turned it on yet. Feel like I need to stop working and become a caveman for at least a month for me to get full satisfaction from this game. Not happening yet.
