It completely invalidates it because the supposed summary was inaccurate. You can't summarize something that's not even one of the points brought up and the quote proves that. That's putting two and two together and getting five. Legal roleplay is just as important as illegal roleplay. None should be prioritized but neither one should be neglected or given precedence. There must be an equal balance. But to synopsize the argument: I'm not suggesting that LSRP should deviate from its system, what I'm suggestion is that it takes advantage of known issues in its own and other communities and corrects it. A lot what has people crossing its fingers for LSRP is problems that were on LSRP but weren't as bad. If you can rectify the problems and be receptive to constructive criticism without being sensitive to it then that's a step in the right direction. A lot of the time constructive criticism is perceived as discrediting when in reality all it is is a suggestion in the interest of bettering something. A lot of it has to do with miscomprehension as well. Instead of saying, "the server has so many problems," I'm saying "the server could be better if..." At the end of the day what I'm trying to do is bring forward an opinion that has the potential to better the server. Again, it's an opinion but it's one I feel is shared by the wider community. 1. People with no experience in a genre shouldn't be handling reports that require experience in said genre. 2. People with no experience in a category or minimal experience in a category shouldn't be making decisions based on "rules" alone. They need to be able to put themselves in a character's shoes. 3. In terms of transparency I feel that players should be clued in on the decisions that either negatively or positively effect their characters or accounts. These "discussions" sometimes remain hidden and secluded and I've witnessed my fair share of hidden agendas impacting decisions. It cancels out the bias claims that are always associated to subgroups and gives players clarity. 4. Be consistent and forthright. If the community plays on this "case by case" or an arbitrary system then it opens it up to claims of double standard. Don't enforce a standard at your discretion. It must be on-size-fits-all. 5. Be engaging and ingenuous with the community. "Verified discussions" was a step in the right direction but after the departure of the administration that implemented it it was neglected and the public were given very few answers. A system like that should be implemented universally. 6. Put more power in the community's hands. In most communities discussions and decisions are open and closed. Meaning that any administrator or support member can close threads based on their discretion. In other words, if they don't like or agree with it then it's not worth the time of day. Stop this and let them play out. 7. Don't confuse "heavy" roleplay with hyperrealism. On other servers your faction is given virtually zero chance of existence if it doesn't go in line with Southern California. In a nutshell, if you're not an Armenian, Russian, skinhead or gang banger then you're held to an outrageous standard. Let players do what they want as long as their concept treats San Andreas like Southern California. All this "they wouldn't be here" shit is nothing more than micromanagement. If their concept isn't too far fetched and outside the lines of realism then leave them be. Who gives a fuck if there's three Italian crime families and a Serbian faction? 8. Put more investigative powers in the PD and SD's hands. Good criminal roleplay means good law enforcement roleplay. They bounce off of each other. 9. Make people value their characters. Enforce a CK rule if they put their lives at risk. 10. Stop with the excessive amount of OOC prison time unless it's murder. Maybe even repeat robberies to try and crack down on chain robberies. People will just name change and it ruins longevity and continuation and also investigations. 11. Give players breathing space. Less micromanagement and bureaucracy. If we have a business and change characters, let us keep our move our businesses without stupid levels of scrutiny. We shouldn't have to account for every little thing our characters do down to the color of its socks. 12. Don't lower the standard because "they're all we've got." There's always ways around work load, most just don't want to spread it around. I wasn't planning on writing this much so that "synopsis" I had planned is out the window 😂 But this has been on the back of my mind for months. And for the record, as a former member of staff, very little in the aforementioned "staff meetings" ever came to fruition. Most of what was said or brought forward was wrote down like something was being done but very rarely was. It was always put in the rear-view. But a fresh start will change that, I hope. Again, it's food for thought and was brought forward constructively. At the end of the day it's going to be a collective effort. Why not start prior to launch?2 points

I think currently GTAW finds itself in the shoes LSRP were once in. By that I mean that they have a monopoly over the genre simply because there is no alternative, similarly to our community on SA:MP. Players stuck around because there was nowhere else to go. On GTAW what you've got is a server and community tailored around legal roleplayers, ran by legal roleplayers and heavily influenced by legal roleplayers. One sticking point that comes up time and time again is their IFM's lack of engagement, transparency and knowledge and this is the driving force behind the bulk of our roleplayers leaving their server. Now, a lot of people use this a basis to promote their roleplay but the fact of the matter is that it's the truth, their lack of regard for their illegal community is what will offer LSRP a way in. Over the course of the last few months it's been more evident than ever and their management's obliviousness to the fact is what adds insult to injury. For this server to hit the ground running what you have to do is capitalize on the shortcomings of the aforementioned server and strike while the iron's hot. Transparency will be a key factor in attracting these players. Deliverance will be what keeps them and the expectations and promises need to be fulfilled in order for this to come to fruition at all. Illegal roleplay shouldn't be prioritized by any means but it should be treated with the same amount of respect as legal roleplay and given the same opportunity of prosperity. Illegal roleplay has always been the foundation of LSRP but what made LSRP so consistent was its honesty, its openness and its lucidity. Transparency was always there one way or another. One look at their faction's forum and you realize that their faction management team are driving people into LSRP's arms and for years it's gone unnoticed and unaddressed because their has been no alternative. You can forget about servers like LCRP making a wave because they're not battled tested like LSRP is and don't have the following LSRP do, coupled with the fact that their management are as corrupt as the day is long. All these make-shift beliefs and idealisms are used to lure people in but it's nothing more than a false pretense and a power grab. In other words, in certain communities if you don't agree with somebody's modus operandi, they will find a way to ban you, silence you or misinterpret you. On LSRP I believe that the number one priority should be to put the power in the player's hands. For this to overtake its competitors and scratch the surface it's got to recognize the flaws of communities that don't work. LSRP is genuinely the last hope for those interested in illegal roleplay. We need to do as much as we can to emphasize that and promote the fact that the community and management are receptive to that or we're back to square one. It's in all of our interests if we're on the same wave length. All old community politics should be disregarded and the slate should be wiped clean. This will only work if we're all on the same page. Make LSRP great again.1 point

To provide some transparency on the recruitment system being used by the LSPD — the long (and ancient) in-game method of entry via an in-game academy has been removed entirely. We are moving towards a forum-focused recruitment system with a departmental interview to test out of character mindset, role play quality and character motives. We are putting a heavy emphasis on characters with this new system. We don't want cops, we want characters. We want people who provide in-depth, substance-filled role play and who can immerse themselves to portray realistic people. We are focused on ensuring that the faction does not endorse individuals who are merely here to police, rather than role play. We find this change is required to move towards a better, more efficient process. The recruitment system will be structured as follows; Submit a preliminary application. Departmental Interview (We will be heavily assessing role play quality, mindset, character motives and general plans for the individual's character) Invited to an 'Off-map' academy which gives them access to a theory side of the forums, which will contain theory of policies, mindset, character expectations and exam questions, this will be in-depth as we will only have one exam from now on, rather than two. Takes the Theoretical Exam which will be around 25-30 questions in total, in-depth and revision of the faction's policies, approach to role play and character expectations is expected. Passes the exam, graduates and begins role-playing in the faction. We aim for this process to take days at max, rather than weeks. If anyone has any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me or @lynx.1 point

yeah. even the strawman system, which was designed specifically to combat gun scarcity had the opposite effect. it led to this disgusting ecosystem where weapon distributors became pseudo admins who granted people the luxury of gun roleplay and took it upon themselves to regulate what others did. sure, renowned factions like PEN1 and EC13 had no issues obtaining guns because they were in the upper echelon of roleplay but if you were an up and coming group without notoriety or OOC connections? doomed. nobody wants to blow a mafia member for 2 months buying kilos of drugs just to get a glimpse of firearm roleplay, it leads to a toxic environment where people care too much about their possessions and will engage in overly aggressive behavior to protect them. getting robbed at gun point? np, ill pull out my own gun and try to kill them because the alternative is a worse outcome. scared of being stomped out in a script fight? np i'll just scroll and dome them because i don't want to risk losing my gun. make pistols piss easy to obtain and bump up the severity of deathmatching1 point

LSRP slipped heavily towards the end to the point they took what they could to survive for as long as they could (which is completely understandable and respectable) especially in terms of role-players and staff (not people in particular, but the general atmosphere). The LSRP staff were immature, inexperienced and that was reflected in the role-play by the community, by the ad-hoc decisions that seemed to change based on opinions on certain players and factions instead of impartial and integrity of upholding rules equally. I think its changed now as LSRP moves on to something that is serious and bigger, with large potential, and for that, I am really excited and hope to see good changes and a new attitude towards the server especially from a management / administration perspective in treating everyone as equals, being honest and transparent and looking out for the servers interest rather than protecting their own, which sadly has been seen before. I think the current mangagement are well-intended as well as a large portion of the staff and in time, those bad apples will be thrown out. This of course is just my opinion and what I experienced.1 point

It would be nice if the Combat Pistol and SNS Pistol were easily obtainable by illegal RPers. Make the more overpowered weapons like Automatic Rifles, SMGs, High Caliber Pistols and Weapon Attachments harder to find, requiring connections and plugs. Besides we all know that these plugs will only supply the same group of people they have coordinated and allied with for years. Then those people will stockpile and hoard these weapons. What transpires in-character has very little to do with who has access to the guns. Allow unofficial and smaller groups to get a small amount of weapons. A few pistols, knives and ammunition every month. Also allow for PF weapons to be exchanged, sold and the licensing to be obtained by criminals freely.1 point

i think its important to understand why people are fed up with gta world and are desperately seeking an alternative. quality, freedom and a lack of support for illegal rp are in my opinion the biggest drivers for player discontent over there, so going against that by restricting player housing is not a good idea. effort should be placed on developing businesses and key areas so hubs appear naturally. renovate the mega mall and add another in vespucci make a public park closer to the center of the map and add spawn points nearby for easy access add an efficient public transport system which allows people to get around the map easier (and no, dont just add player taxis and expect them to ferry people 24/7. make an NPC controlled subway system and an NPC driven bus route) dont make everything a UCP feature. ie skin customization should be done IG. place default businesses at one or two locations max and don't scatter them across the map just because it makes more sense for the lore. a phone shop, jewellery shop, barber shop and clothing shop should all be next to each other at an easy to access location like the davis mega mall. this funnels players into one area and so long as there's other things for them to do there, will facilitate excess roleplay and let the rest work itself out naturally. given the systems are in place people will make their own roleplay1 point

OP has a really good point, and it's something I've been thinking about for a while now. But I haven't been able to come up with any decent solution. The fact is, GTA V's map is fucking massive compared to SA's. SA had 3 cities and it STILL wasn't nearly as big, and we all know how active SF and LV were. I think this is an issue that the community is going to just have to be mindful about, try to keep ourselves concentrated in LS only, at the very least. I'm sad to say but GTA V's country side is fucking garbage compared even to SA's, while still being ridiculously huge and far away. I fear that it's mostly going to be Tierra Robada-like, an absolute ghost town that has no purpose other than set dressing for people to drive through and the very occasional faction that tries to set up shop there (and inevitably fails because nobody but faction members ever shows up). If we're lucky maybe the country side can become a popular destination to lose the cops, but I'm not hopeful about even that since it takes enough time to get there that you'd end up with 10 different tails anyway. On server release I'd definitely not bother with anything but LS. Let the server develop a bit before splitting up the population. But really, it's a super-complicated issue and one that has no good solution, the map is, quite simply, way too big to properly accommodate roleplay between even a thousand people. Other than some mapping magic to scale the map down a bit (would this be possible, or even desirable, really?), I just don't know.1 point

There could be no worse thing than bringing roleplay to OOC means. People already found retarded ways to beef in LSRP back when everyone used their own Teamspeak, let alone having everyone in a single chat getting mad at eachother because X crew hit up Z crew unprovoked or Y crew keeps provoking X crew for no reason. Keep roleplay in the server as much as possible. A Facebook rippoff for our social media needs should eventually be implemented, like you said, e-banging has reached stratospheric levels in the last half a dozen years and no "realistic" depiction of gangs can be complete without the internet gangsters these days. But sharing IC shit in OOC channels is just a recipe for disaster in a million different ways. One of which is... no offense but I don't want to see people with stupid ass profile pictures like mine post IC shit acting like they're gangbangers, it's immersion breaking (and funny) to say the least. I'm of the opinion that Faction Management should force CK wars on factions who have been beefing violently, consistently, for ridiculously long periods of time. I've been in protracted PK wars and they really just aren't fun, eventually. You're logging on every day and you know some car filled with 4 guys armed with automatics is going to show up and shit on you eventually, and the same thing goes on for some times WEEKS, with the attacker and attacked alternating between eachother. This would deter people from constantly mass murdering eachother's blocks as the looming sword of a forced CK war (and actual consequences, imagine that) hangs over them. This would also guarantee that only smarter and less violent factions stay around for long. And no, I don't believe a mutual CK war agreement is enough. A bigger, more well connected faction has no reason to ever accept a CK war if they're smart at all because they will eventually win by attrition. More soldiers, more guns, more patience means a smaller faction is fucked because their attacks have less impact,or fail, or they just can't afford guns every day to retaliate. I don't agree. You have to think on this; crime is, increasingly, harder to commit, as avenues of making money through illicit means either get more esoteric or disappear completely, or the police crack down on them. As these activities become more esoteric, it also gets way, way harder to properly simulate them in a game that wasn't made with simulating them in mind; how do you simulate one of the most common criminal activities today, for example, card skimming and other credit-card related scams? You can't. The game isn't equipped for it and trying to program such a thing, make it useful and balance it in how hard it is to do and how much money it gives is a herculean task. We have to make some concessions to modern-day realism like keeping weed illegal so that illegal roleplayers can actually have easy avenues of making money, or else you end up with a situation where RPing a criminal is a chore where you're making 20 bucks per day selling crack to the one guy on the server bothering to roleplay a crackhead. At the end of the day, it's a game and one not meant to simulate Los Angeles, but meant to simulate Los Santos. Los Santos has its own culture, its own history, its own people, its own laws and its own everything. It's why I always found it really stupid that people got mad when others roleplayed factions that "realistically" don't really have a presence in real life LA - LS is LS exactly for that, to give us MORE roleplay freedom so that we can have more fun and more variety, and bend the rules of real life whenever need be so that we can make it at least mildly fun to play. On the topic of real-life brands in clothing; I'm of the opinion that they shouldn't be around. Management should really just make up their own brands - give the server its own culture, don't just jack shit from real life and have it interacting with shirts from fake teams and fake places. I know a lot of them are sexual innuendo and other such jokes, but it's more than possible to roleplay around these anyway, just ignore the fact that it was originally meant as a joke. Not to mention that making money off LSRP and having real-life brands in it opens it up to litigation if it eventually gets big enough to warrant it. And on a smaller, more personal note, I always thought it looked fucking retarded to have real-life brands in GTA games, cars, stores, fast food places, etc etc, it just doesn't fit the GTA game vibe.1 point

If you paid attention to the substance instead of the quote in a reply to another contributor then maybe you wouldn't mistake the purpose of the thread. The focus of the thread is to help LSRP, not any other server. Between the reference to aphorisms and the mention of quotes I'd say the only reason you've posted is to exhibit your competence in literature. Well done, you can read and write. So if that's what you take from this thread then I'd ask you to stay out of the discussion and leave it to those who are trying to promote change and raise awareness to the subject at hand. It's not exploitive, it's opportunistic. There's plenty of light roleplay servers on both platforms but there's been very few English speaking heavy roleplay servers with a decent player base. But again, I suppose that depends on your interpretation of "heavy." There's no need to point out the obvious. If your take on this is the "focus of this server is lsrp and lsrp only" then you're talking to a brick wall.1 point
