  6. HISTORY Satanas, originally a clique from Temple Street dating back to the 1920s, ventured out independently in the 1970s. In 1972, a car club emerged in the Los Angeles area, founded by Filipino Americans seeking to foster a cultural bond in a community where they were a minority. Initially exclusive to Filipinos, the club gradually attracted other members of the Filipino community, leading to its expansion into various Southern California cities, including San Diego, La Puente, Cerritos, Oxnard, Long Beach, Eagle Rock, Norwalk, San Fernando, West Covina, Chino, Chino Hills, Santa Ana, San Gabriel, El Monte, Delano, Palmdale, Antelope Valley, Vallejo, and San Jose. The club's influence even extended to states on the East Coast such as New Jersey and New York. The legacy of Satanas transcended its founding years, as other Filipino gangs like the Demonios and Diablos (distinct from the Mexican gangs of the same names) trace their roots back to Satanas. These gangs often originated among second-generation Satanas members and younger siblings of former STS members, with many of the founders of other Filipino American gangs having ties to Satanas. The cultural similarities between the Filipino and Mexican communities led to alliances between Ese Te Ese's older members and leaders with Chicano gangs in their neighborhoods during its early years. Accounts of Los Angeles gang history often depict Filipinos and Mexicans standing alongside each other during various street conflicts. SATANAS TODAY In the bustling streets of Los Santos, the territory of the Satanas gang is firmly established around the intersection of Alexandria Avenue and Elm Street. This neighborhood, a vibrant mix of residential and commercial buildings, serves as the heart of Satanas' operations in the city. The streets are alive with activity, with Satanas members often seen congregating on street corners, their presence a testament to their control over the area. The buildings are adorned with graffiti and murals that proudly display the gang's name and symbols, marking their territory and asserting their dominance. Despite its tough exterior, the Satanas gang is deeply connected to the community in this neighborhood. Many members grew up here, and their families have lived in the area for generations. As a result, the gang is deeply invested in the well-being of the community, often organizing events and providing support to residents in need. The alliance between Satanas and other gangs in the city is particularly strong in this neighborhood, with neighboring gangs often coming together to protect their turf and support each other in times of conflict. This unity has helped Satanas maintain its grip on the area, even in the face of increased pressure from law enforcement. As night falls, the streets come alive with activity, with Satanas members and their allies patrolling the area, keeping a watchful eye out for rival gangs and any potential threats to their territory. The sound of music and laughter can be heard emanating from the local hangouts, where gang members gather to socialize and unwind after a long day. In the world of Los Santos, Alexandria Avenue and Elm Street are more than just a crossroads—they are the beating heart of the Satanas gang, a testament to their strength, unity, and unwavering presence in the city.
