The recovered weapons included two assault rifles, one shotgun equipped with a holographic sight, and one handgun. During the course of this operation, the suspect actively resisted deputies of the Sheriff’s Department, which escalated into an exchange of gunfire. The suspect employed automatic weaponry and attempted to fatally harm two deputies. Deputies returned fire with Department-issued firearms, neutralizing the suspect. While significant damage was sustained to Sheriff’s Department vehicles and surrounding structures, it is of critical importance to note that no deputies were injured. Rescue Ambulance was immediately requested to the scene, and the suspect was pronounced deceased at 22:56 hours. Subsequent investigation confirmed the individual’s affiliation with the Woodlawn Crips, a known criminal street gang operating in the vicinity of Santa Maria Boulevard and the Santa Maria Burger-Shot. This incident stands as one of the largest seizures of illegal firearms and narcotics within the past ten days, marking another substantial step in the Department’s ongoing fight against gang violence.
