  7. This falls true but like all ecosystems creators are one element, some people love trade, whether it be drugs and guns, properties and cars. Systems need revamping and the economy and state of affairs that manage these processes also needs repairing otherwise people become demotivated. I also think the community used to be much more intertwined where management would actually listen and engage more. I beg to hear what lead admins or leaders of the community have communicated with there longest standing factions, if at all to hear the state of affairs.
  8. You’re dead right I made this post in IFM public on Wednesday and nobody replied so I’m just gunna post my thoughts here tbh I think it should be fuck the entirety of IFM off and start fresh with people VOTED in not assigned because it’s just jobs for the boys it was titled REVAMP IFM AND INTRODUCE VOTING SYSTEM "If you don't like the truth, change it" - me, 2024. This post is not meant to upset, insult, or throw shade to anyone; this is nothing but the cold truth and if you are offended or upset by this truth, then it is simple, you must change the truth, such that the community is in better stead. Voting System How this will work, leaders of the new IFT will need to be voted in a poll with an application/profile that has their claim to IFT leadership. In doing this, you are forcing the IFT leadership to make changes the players are in need of and removes anyone who just wants to AFK the job role, or is not even motivated to chase the work needed. This also exposes the wider playerbase to the people who are running IFT, and an understanding of why people should entrust them with the management of the illegal factions. IFTL should comprise of people who have extensive experience LEADING and CREATING SUCCESSFUL ILLEGAL FACTIONS. Currently it's all comprised of jobs for the boys who are just flexing rank. I beg to see what the current IFT have actually done for the illegal scene outside of take credit from players suggestions. There needs to be a revamp of leadership who understand illegal roleplay and have been participating for years as leaders, it's clear the lack of experience is serving as a detriment to the current playerbase. Why It's clear why this needs to happen, the community is in a dire state, nothing has changed and the current upper management are inactive and clinging on to roles, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks this, it's the whole community and I dare say that we the majority are not wrong. There is no need for alliances, and there is no need for trade anymore, drugs have been massively devalued and the only thing that holds value nowadays is guns (barely, and for all the wrong reasons). These "schemes" have only crushed the players ability to create interesting roleplay and connections, and the market of illegal trade, and IFT's "schemes" are only making the situation worse, hyper influx, and piss poor management. And if you don't like these words, well you better swallow them because its the truth. The reason this system also works so much better, is because it's the community who decides gets put in these positions, we can see who has the credentials to manage the servers direction, and those who have the passion and motivation to make a good needed change to the scene, otherwise, we might as well all /q and let the fun die.

  12. Original Post: https://forum.ls-rp.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=674894 https://forum.ls-rp.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=674894 Credits: Mia @mia About This Guide I wanted to share some writing tips I’ve learned over the years. This guide was written for everyone, whether you’re an experienced writer or a novice. It can be used as a reference for improving both your writing and your role-play. Concise Actions Nobody likes to read lengthy actions. Actions should be to the point. Instead of describing every action in excruciating detail, try to break it down as short as possible. Examples: Jane picks up her fork, cuts a piece of her steak, raises it to her mouth, and takes a bite. ✗ Jane eats her steak. ✓ Jane gets out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, lights her cigarette, raises it to her mouth, and takes a puff. ✗ Jane smokes a cigarette. ✓ Jane searches her pockets, takes out her wallet, pulls out some money, and hands it to the cashier. ✗ Jane pays the cashier. ✓ We already know how to eat a meal or smoke a cigarette. We don’t need to know every action within an action. Avoid being too wordy. Unnecessary Actions & Descriptions Role-playing absolutely everything your character does can bog down your chat. Not every action or detail has to be written out unless it’s absolutely necessary to the scene. This goes hand-in-hand with being concise with your role-play. Examples: Peter kicks his feet into motion and leaves. ✗ Just leave, Peter. You don’t need to write it out unless you’re making a point of it. Peter drives a 2018 Ford Mustang GT with leather seats and performance-pack wheels. ✗ Peter drives a new Mustang. ✓ We don’t need to know the exact year, model or features of your character’s car. Jane has double-D breasts, a big ass, a tiny waist, and long, platinum blonde hair. ✗ Jane shows off her hourglass figure. ✓ Jane tucks a strand of blonde hair behind her ear. ✓ Sometimes it’s okay to just say “Jane is a curvaceous blonde,” too. Further down I explain when and how to use necessary description. Show, Don’t Tell Many of us are guilty of “telling” instead of “showing” in our role-play. Sometimes we are too direct and literal with our actions. It’s lazy and leaves little to the imagination to the reader. Examples: Tina is drunk. ✗ Tina slurs her words. ✓ Tina staggers. ✓ Tina looks tired and hungover from partying all night. ✗ Tina has bedhead and bags under her eyes. ✓ Tina reeks of hard liquor and vomit. ✓ Jane thinks Adam is cute. ✗ Jane checks Adam out. ✓ Dorothy is old. ✗ Dorothy has a wizened face. ✓ Dorothy dodders with the help of a cane. ✓ Bianca looks sexy. ✗ Bianca wears a skimpy red dress. ✓ Howard has been a smoker for forty years. ✗ Howard speaks with a raspy voice. ✓ Howard shows his yellow teeth when he smiles. ✓ Tip: You can also “show” with dialogue. Examples: Dorothy is old. ✗ Dorothy says, “Back in my day, we didn’t have color TV.” ✓ Emily is angry at Frank. ✗ Emily says, “You’re a disgusting piece of shit, Frank! Don’t ever talk to me again!” ✓ Stronger Words Why walk when you can saunter, stroll, or amble? Why smile when you can simper, beam, or grin? There are much stronger words to use in your actions. You want to use stronger words to convey your actions in the most efficient way. But don't use just any synonym you find -- it needs to fit the situation. Examples: Dorothy walks like an old lady. ✗ Dorothy dodders. ✓ In this example, we want to show that our character Dorothy has trouble walking due to her age. Dodder, which means "to tremble or totter, typically because of old age," fits perfectly. Note: Sometimes simple words are fine to use, like "Jane smiles." Would another word be more appropriate for your action? Use your judgment. Tina looks at her boyfriend playfully. ✗ Tina meets eyes with her boyfriend and simpers at him. ✓ In this example, we used "meets eyes" to show a connection between the two characters, and "simper" -- which means "to smile or gesture in an affectedly coquettish, coy, or ingratiating manner" -- to convey her cute, playfulness toward him. Necessary Description Occasionally, description is necessary to set the scene. This does not mean you should go over-the-top, though, like in the examples given above. You should be descriptive if you're trying to evoke a sense, make a point of something, et cetera. Examples: Lily's apartment reeks of cigarette smoke. ✓ (evokes a sense of smell, makes a point of Lily being a smoker) Lily's car rattles and squeaks. ✓ (evokes a sense of sound, makes a point of Lily driving a cheap car) Redundancy & Other Unnecessary Words You also have to watch out for redundancy and unnecessary modifiers. We want to write as concise as possible. Examples: Jack quickly speeds downstairs. ✗ Jack speeds downstairs. ✓ We removed "quickly" since "speeds" already implies quickness. Heather accepts the free gift, an unexpected surprise from her boyfriend. ✗ Heather accepts the gift, a surprise from her boyfriend. ✓ A gift is always free, so "free" is not needed here. The same applies to "unexpected surprise" -- surprises are always unexpected, so we can omit that from our action. Emma looks up at the ceiling. ✗ Emma looks at the ceiling. ✓ We removed "up" because where else is a ceiling? Emma sits down on the floor. ✗ Emma sits on the floor. ✓ Again, where else is the floor? 13. Original Post: https://forum.ls-rp.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=520370 Credits: Liquicity I want to make a public thread which can server as a guide on the subject. It's similar to an old Kipps or Delroy_Wilcox topic. I hope it is short enough. Credits: Douglas_Nyswonger, Jerry_Sforza, Liquicity. DICTION (FOR FOREIGN CHARACTERS) It also also applies to any other foreign character, such as Spanish, Hispanics, African Americans, Jamaicans, Asian and any other minority that derives from there. This chapter shall remind you of apostrophes: they're used to represent ownership of objects and a missing letter in words. They do not have to be mixed with slang. Words like wanna or gonna are to be written without them. CORRECT USE 'Ey, yo*, what up dog? 'S up wit' that shit, mofucka? 'Ight* nigga, cool shit though, know what I'm sayin'? INCORRECT USE A'yo, whaddup dawg? Sup widdhat shit, mofockah? "Ayo" is an acceptable substitute. Aight niggah, kool sheet dough, knawhatimsayin? "A'ight" is an acceptable substitute. Using more than a few worldwide common foreign words is also wrong. Ese, esa, pinche, cholo, chola, konichwa, ciao are, per example, allowed. This applies to any other foreign language. Mainly, common forms of greeting, thanking, saying good bye and baseline insults are accepted. Anything else spoken in a foreign language shall be done through "(<insert language>) phrase in English" — "(Spanish) So, I met this guy. We're set now, bro. He'll bring that shit tonight." ACCENT Accent, way of pronunciation particular to a speaker or group of speakers, usually related to those of other nationality or ethnicity when they try to talk in English. LSRP players tend to make them up in front of their line while using correct grammar, do the same thing and use the specific language or avoid to put it at all. CORRECT USE * Liquicity talks with a <insert accent>. (/me) * Liquicity talks with a British accent. Use the said language directly and let the reader understand the accent or not. Ray Ferrante shouts: MA! WHA'S FO DINNA?! Ramon Trejo says: Ey, foo'. You from the valle? Treshawn Garnett says: I ain't got no bad blood wit' no mofucker out hea. INCORRECT USE Liquicity says: [British Accent] Hey. Liquicity says: [British Accent] Hey, mate. Liquicity says: (British Accent) Hey. ELLIPSIS The correct form of ellipsis is three dots (…), other variations you see people using are mostly wrong. Two dot ellipsis (..) is wrong use, and isn't a thing. CORRECT USE Pecker Wood says: I seem to remember... INCORRECT USE Pecker Wood says: I seem to remember.. Pecker Wood says: I seem to remember.......... DASH Players on LSRP sometimes use the dash in text, to show that their character has been interrupted, or maybe got tangled in his own speech. In such situations, it's usually when people make common mistakes. A dash and ellipsis (-...) combination is not a thing, and it's completely wrong. CORRECT USE Pecker Wood says: What ab— Pecker Wood says: What ab-- Pecker Wood says: What about-- INCORRECT USE Pecker Wood says: What ab-... Pecker Wood says: What ab...- Pecker Wood says: What ab-.- APOSTROPHES Players on LSRP typically use apostrophes when they want to show that the word they pronounce has a missing letter. The wrong use of apostrophes comes when people try to combine them with slang. Full words like gonna or wanna don't need an apostrophe. CORRECT USE Pecker Wood says: He was gonna help me, but I saw him runnin' away. Pecker Wood says: Yo! Why are you walkin' alone, homie? Get in my car. INCORRECT USE Pecker Wood says: He was gonna' help me, but I saw him runnin' away. Pecker Wood says: Yo'! Why are you walkin' alone, homie'? Get in my car. EMOTES Emotes are used to perform actions with your character. It shows other people what you are doing. Players make the mistake of sometimes trying to tell their story through them, which incites metagame. CORRECT USE * Pecker Wood rocks back and forth on the chair. His hands can't stop shaking. Skin Head says: What's wrong? INCORRECT USE * Pecker Wood is terrified after the recent murder he was forced to commit by his friends. * Pecker Wood is a known gangster in Verona Beach. SEMICOLONS The semicolon or semi-colon (;) is a punctuation mark that separates major sentence elements. CORRECT USE Omega five to all units. We have a BOLO on a black male; he wears a white shirt. I saw Elora Garner; she's scary as fuck. INCORRECT USE Omega five to all units; We have a BOLO on an IC 2 male. (Never capitalize the letter after a semicolon.) Omega five to all units; we have a BOLO on an IC 2 male. (Those two statements aren't to be connected.) * Raymond Gallo seems young; he's tall. (Semicolons are only to connect two clauses in dialogues. anything else shall be written with full stop.) I saw Roxanne; but she isn't wearing the earrings I bought her. (Semicolons are never used before conjunctions. And, but, nor, or, for, so and yet, etc.)
  14. This is a post from the old forums, a guide on how players SHOULD RP, this is in response to some of the piss poor quality roleplayers that are on the server currently, and partly the reason why the playerbase slowly dwindles each day, it's because of the players who forget that they are on a roleplay server and are constantly playing to win. I'll be transfering some more roleplay guides over as to encourage people to increase the quality of the roleplay. Credits: Santino_Valenti from the old LSRP forums. Fed's edit: It's not an annoucement, but a very good thread to read, it has many good points, not only in the first post. Please read it. This might take more than 5 seconds to read, so bear with me. Visual aids are included to keep your attention. I see a lot of hypocrisy in this forum when it comes to people talking about the most desirable way to RP. The debate is almost always about the distinction between RP and real life. Let me designate a few terms first. The real life argument is that you should RP your character as if it's real life. The RP argument is that you should RP your character however you want your character to be. One's more realistic, while the other is seen by some as more "fun." Now, back to what I was saying. Nowadays you have about ten of these threads made a week (which is a whole other issue), and they're pushing for one of these two arguments. They either say something along the lines of "send the whiners to the gulags!" and "it's a video game so I'll RP in a fun way" - these being representations of the RP-how-you-want argument. And everyone praises the RP-how-you-want argument because it vilifies a common annoyance we all experience: OOC complaining. Even more, it holds up in reverence something we all want: fun. No bitching and fun should sound like a winning combination to everyone. So then about 50 people post the same thing (something along the lines of: +1, QFT, etc.) and we all say that's how we want things to be. I remember a good point that Karl made a while back. I can't recall the exact phrasing, but it was along the lines of this: if you make a post with good grammar and structure, people will support your argument regardless of its content. From what I've seen, this holds true in nearly every scenario. Because a few days later, someone posts about non-RPers and Rambos. They say that their RP experience has been ruined by some douchebag that didn't RP a situation realistically, ran away from ten guys with guns, refused to give up information in torture, or something analogous. What happens is that the very people who say: "Yeah, it's a game, let's have fun!" are the ones that also support the people who say "RP this like real life, RP to lose once in a while; nobody's superman." I don't know if this is because most people here sometimes act like lemmings and will just agree with whatever the opinion at hand is, or if it's the inherent hypocrisy in all these kinds of posts. Lemmings: I think a lot of it is the hypocrisy. When you're the guy with ten guns pointed out you, you're a supporter of the RP-how-you-want argument. When you're one of the ten guys, you want him to RP to lose. In other words, you support whatever argument seems to best fit your needs in the particular situation. Well, stop. Where do I stand? Personally, I'm one of those "hardcore" (although I don't see anything that's too hardcore about it) RPers that says you should RP realistically. Somehow the word "realism" has become very taboo on here for reasons I'll never understand. I don't see why 100% of the server doesn't feel the same way, because after all, did you not all come here to play on an "RP" server? Personally, I don't think giving your character a 50-inch penis and the ability to lift a truck is okay because it's how you want to write your character. Why don't I RP my character as an unkillable rapist? It's FUN, and it's what I (notice the emphasis on "I" there) want to do with my character. Well, here's the problem with all of you who say "RP however you want." Role-play involves participation from everyone. You want to know how to stop the OOC complaints and the non-RP? I can tell you what causes it: the selfishness and disregard people have for other characters. If you want to be a serial killer, that involves other characters dying. But the players behind those other characters don't want their character to die. They want their character to live to the age of 80 and amount a massive fortune. But you want your character to kill someone. But they don't want their character to die... and so on. Same thing with my rapist example. I want my character to rape people and to never get arrested/die. But nobody wants to get raped, and the cops want to arrest me... Do you see what the problem is here? Divergent agendas. We want things for our character that cannot be reconciled with what other people want for their character. We can't all be mass murderers that don't die; because in order for that to happen, someone needs to be on the receiving end of getting killed. This is why people should be held accountable to RP with sensibility and realism. To me, realism is a guiding principle that keeps our IC actions in check, and stops people from receding to self-interested solipsism. I'm getting sick of this "RP to have fun" shit, because all it leads to is a focus on your character, and only your character. If you don't think RPing realistically is "fun", then RPG/DM servers are a better fit for you. RP is more than just typing in a bunch of /me commands and having persistent stats. Just because you use 20 /me commands when you're RPing that you're superman doesn't make it legitimate RP. RP is also about realism. Superman (not you): And that's not to say realism means more /me commands or even less "action" like shootouts or fights. It just means that the ways in which these occur, and the reasons for them, are a lot more sensible, and less likely to cause OOC frustration. Now I understand this is a video game, and obviously your character can still be brave. If I'm torturing you with a nail gun, a curb stomp, vicious beatings, and having your testicles shocked with jumper cables, you should tell me what I want to know. Likewise, don't spit in the face of a mafia boss because that's your character. Everyone has their limits, and most people have a very low limit. If people don't roleplay realistically, we end up with a clash of titans: two people want to win, but only one can. The result of this? OOC complaining, report threads, grudges, DM -- all things that I don't like to experience when I come on this server. The best RP happens when people play their characters realistically and sensibly. I don't know where this myth that always RPing to win and never to lose is somehow fun and RPing realistically is somehow unfun. Yes, RP requires you to have at least a five second attention span, but for those who are patient, mature, and not selfish in every situation, it is thoroughly rewarding. Not only is it less frustrating, but the RP that arises is fun for all of the groups involved.
