Can we return to the Golden Age of LSRP?
GhostOfProtocol replied to Tungsten's topic in General Discussions
I think SAMP has reached the end of a damn good lifeline, honestly. Nostalgia is wearing off for most people now and I think that's the honest truth of it. During the relaunch, numbers were higher because people wanted to relive their youth for a little while. Once that had worn off, everyone just went about their grown up adult lives. You've got to remember, those of us that were here during that "golden era" were all teenagers with fuck all to do after school except spend a few hours on a video game. Most of us have jobs and shit now and either work shifts are or knackered after work or both. Furthermore, LS-RP is a much different place than it was in the so called "golden era" (which for me was 2015-2018 give or take). In a lot of ways, I find it much better and in some ways I find it worse. I heavily second what @Anarcho said months ago, the script itself is probably in the best state we've seen it. SAMP as a whole is actually a lot more stable as well than it was back in those "golden era" days. What I have found is that the quality of player is a lot more.... questionable? Don't get me wrong, there is still some absolute gems out there and there still stands to be some really good roleplay. That's just masked by the high number of players with poor English and poor roleplay abilities. I expect that (like was said above) the ratio of these hasn't changed and they're just more noticable now the playerbase is much smaller. I'd still rather have 50 competent roleplayers than 150 where 100 of them are shit. It used to be a case that back in the "golden era" the server policed itself because punishments for even minor infractions were fairly severe and were publicised. I feel like standards have dropped in that respect, and it shows. Add in the fact that the player base was a lot younger and being admin jailed or banned actually felt like a "punishment". These days, if people get banned they can just go off and do a million other adult things that they have to do. But, let's not be all negative. LS-RP is still intending to launch on GTA V. I have hope for that, however I do feel like a GTA V launch is too late to the party considering the RAGEMP scene has been held down for so long by GTA World. What you've got to consider as well is a lot of the higher ranking staff over on World are people who were staff here on LS-RP during that "golden era" so they've taken the lessons learnt here and applied them to that RAGEMP concept. As a counter to that, a lot of older LS-RP members are returning to the LS-RP staff team which is also nice to see. What I said above, comes with a further however. I had an interesting conversation the other day where I mentioned that I feel that RAGEMP and GTA V will be the last place to really experience the GTA text based roleplay scene. I can see GTA 6 being much more focused on the voice chat based roleplay that became so popular during that big pandemic etc. If I recall correctly, Rockstar brought in the guys who developed FiveM so part of me wonders if GTA 6 will have some form of official Rockstar endorsed FiveM style thing. I reckon personally if that is the direction Rockstar take, they'll try and kill off any text based clones to focus people on their voice based alternative. If that is the case, GTA V and RAGEMP might have a very long shelf life for those of us who actually want text based roleplay. It gives LS-RP the chance to really try and fight to establish itself on GTA V, which I think is what LS-RP needs. Having messed about with GTA V recently, I think it's a much better experience than SAMP from a gameplay perspective and there are that many FPS improving mods these days I think even an absolute potato could run GTA V. I still enjoy SAMP, don't get me wrong. I still come back here and spend time here. It's where I've spent years of my life and I don't think I'll ever dip from SAMP for good until it dies off for good. I'll also follow LS-RP over to GTA V when that day comes. That's where I think the opportunities are now though if you want to reclaim a playerbase. Focusing on GTA V and pushing GTA V. -
