La Mano Negra The Mexican Mafia (a/k/a 'La/The Eme', 'Emily', 'Maria', 'Mariposa', 'The Hand') is a Mexican-American criminal organization which was founded by juvenile felons incarcerated alongside older convicts in "vocational institutions". These juvenile felons were rumored to have been thirteen in number, though this is likely a legend propagated by Mexican Mafia cadres. They were members of Mexican-American street gangs who had been incarcerated for violent crime and street gang related crime.
