Dear Adriana,

I hope this letter finds you in a good moment, maybe during one of those quiet mornings you always loved. In here, quiet moments come and go like shifts of light through the bars, but writing to you gives me something steady..something real. I’m counting the days, even though I try not to. I think about the little things..you laughing at your own jokes, the way you braid your hair when you’re bored, how your hands always warmed mine no matter how cold I said I was. I picture those moments more than anything else, because they remind me of what’s waiting for me when this is finally behind us.
You’re young, and you’ve got the whole world moving around you. I’d never blame you if life pulled you in new directions..but the fact that you’re still here, still writing back, still believing in me…that’s something I won’t ever take lightly. Thank you for giving me something to look toward. You’re the reason I keep my head straight, no matter how loud this place gets.

Until the next letter,
John
