  4. "I became a Gangs Deputy back in 2022. I’m twenty-five now. I got a brother doin’ ten years inside for attempted burglary and aggravated assault. He’s still got three more to go before he’s out. I struggle with people, always been a little antisocial, even though my job puts me face-to-face with them every day. It’s something I deal with, part of who I am. But I’ve kept my focus on the work, and on the streets." - Carmen Jimenez Carmen Jimenez grew up in East Los Santos in a low-income Latino family. Her parents worked day and night, her dad as a laborer, her mom performing house cleaning, so Carmen spent most of the time at home with her brothers and cousins. The neighborhood around her was always gang related, drug-related, and violent. Some of the individuals that she grew up around wound up in prison, some did not survive adolescence. Her older sibling got into gang activity and ended up in jail, something that left a lasting impression on her. Although Carmen didn't do the same, she had to suffer through seeing it all occur up close. That, along with the stress of seeing her community stuck in the same cycle, pushed her into law enforcement. She wanted to combat the same things that had controlled her family's life. Carmen is not flawless. She can be stubborn, not willing to change her mind once she has made up hers. She also has trust issues, specifically with opening oneself up to new people, both in the workplace and romantic relationships. She knows the neighborhoods, she understands the culture, and she can read the streets more effectively than most. That is what earned her a selection to the Gang Enforcement Team, where she works now for three years. This thread will showcase the development of Carmen Jimenez, Deputy Gangs in West Vinewood Sheriff's Station
