  1. The Fading Echo of Joey Meat’s Mob: How Boston’s Reach Died on the West Coast By Michael Anderson October 4, 2025 — Los Santos In the fading light of the New England underworld, one last remnant of the Patriarca Crime Family still flickers far from home. The Galleani Crew/ Crime Family — a breakaway faction of the old Boston Mob operating out of Los Santos — has quietly withered to a shadow of its former self, a once-ambitious transplant now surviving on habit, history, and a few aging loyalists. According to sources on both sides of the law, the crew was founded by Joseph “Joey Meat” Galleani, a seasoned Patriarca soldier who relocated west after federal pressure intensified in Boston. For years, Galleani ran the outfit like a satellite regime — a nod to the old ways of East Coast Cosa Nostra — but as indictments, retirements, and age took their toll, the organization’s reach and manpower all but evaporated. Joey Galleani, Richie Cassano, Frank Aquilino & an unnamed Boston associate circa. early 2010s Today, Galleani is described by investigators as the nominal boss of a largely defunct family — a symbolic figurehead more than a power broker. The daily business of what remains now revolves almost entirely around Donald “Donnie Sacks” Sacco, the crew’s acting underboss and de-facto street boss, who has taken over operations from Galleani’s longtime lieutenant Richard Cassano, sidelined by failing health. Per law enforcement intelligence, Sacco’s oversight extends to the crew’s limited rackets in illegal sports betting, loansharking, and adult-content distribution, small-scale enterprises scattered around Market and East Vinewood. “He’s the caretaker,” said one retired federal agent familiar with the group. “Not expanding, not making noise — just keeping the lights on and the money flowing.” Acting underboss Donald “Donnie Sacks” Sacco is seen entering Pasello’s in Market — a known meeting spot for remnants of the Galleani crew, per law enforcement sources. Officials estimate the Galleani organization now counts fewer than a dozen total members, with only two or three made men still considered active. Its influence, once backed by the Patriarca network in Boston, has been reduced to a localized ring of old-timers and small-time associates clinging to a bygone reputation. Galleani himself, now in his late seventies, resides quietly in Vinewood, reportedly spending most of his time away from street affairs. “He’s a ghost boss,” said one organized crime source. “A man living off respect and history, not business.” Despite the crew’s diminished capacity, the Los Santos Organized Crime Task Force continues to monitor its activities, citing residual ties to bookmakers and offshore betting platforms traced back to New England intermediaries. Yet few investigators consider the Galleani outfit a major player. “They’re a family by name, not by power,” said one state police source. “A de-facto crew clinging to a de-jure legacy — ghosts from another era still pretending the game hasn’t passed them by.” More to Read Who Were the New York Mob’s Western Outposts?
