  1. Nice to see everyone's opinions on the matter, it's a shame SAMP is no longer around as I don't think anything will ever top it.

Regardless of bringing it back or not, I think everyone agrees that more has to be done for this server to even stand a chance of that 1.5 year lifeline we expect due to GTA 6's release. I quit the server a while back now due to lack of features and enjoyment playing it, I really hope one day it's good enough to entice me on returning.

    Here's my thoughts

I would love for the SA-MP server to still be going. It was nowhere near as customisable as GTA V (i.e. the best customisation you could get was skin mods...) but I spent upwards of 10 years on it, it worked, and it was enjoyable. I find GTA V's controls are too clunky compared to the more arcade feeling of GTA:SA.

That being said, there are too many limitations to just re-open the SA-MP server. There'd be very little development for many reasons, such as:

    • The language it uses, Pawn, is not used anywhere in mainstream development spaces and a lot of us have fallen out of touch with its syntax
    • It contains work created by other authors that are no longer members of this community - I would not be able to access the gamemode script because of this other work that cannot be shared without their consent, so on SA-MP I was restricted to creating scripts that could be copy and pasted into the gamemode when it was convenient
    • Many left SA-MP for GTA V, I am not so certain that these people would return to SA-MP if they're comfortable with GTA V
    • Most legal and illegal factions, companies, staff procedures and media is set up for GTA V. It'd be a huge task to move everything back to SA-MP, a lot of people would not follow, increasing the strain on other members of the community to pick up where others have dropped out
    • Now that SA-MP is gone, it needs to stay gone. Bringing it back for nostalgia would see limited success

As said in Martin's post, we are not aiming to be a competitor and never were, we aimed to release a barebones script, a minimum viable product, that the community could contribute to and build together. We are not expecting to dominate the GTA V roleplay scene (yet) as we are still building, learning from what the community wants. Our goal and objective is to make a server that players can be a part of when they want a good roleplay experience on GTA V.

Fully understanding, obviously I was unaware of how seamless the transition back to SAMP would or wouldn't be, I now understand why you guys are more against it than not.

A few things I will say is that I do disagree with the player base wouldn't be there, I think that due to us realising now how damn good it was now that it's gone, we would be over the moon with it's re-release.

This is my worry right here, I understand your aim and goals, but like I stated with GTA 6 around the corner, how long do you firstly project it will take to "dominate the RP scene" or get close to that, and secondly what sort of lifeline do you realistically expect, you guys must be aware that the ridiculous amount of people world-wide that will drop GTA 5 the second 6 comes out, and then even more so if RP servers are released shortly after, you don't worry this work is for nothing? You could spend the next 2 years developing this server to get to a fantastic position, then it's August 2025 and were waiting on GTA 6 release next month, if your goal is to take it beyond GTA 6's release, you then have 2 issues, one is that your player base if it has hit a very solid point, will massively fall off and there's probably nothing you could do to retain it due to GTA 6, and secondly if GTA:W announce work has started on a GTA 6 server, they have the community, the numbers in place to once again but you guys in a catch up situation.

SAMP is a dead horse. Stop beating it.

GTA V is a 100 times better platform for a roleplaying sandbox.

Firstly, SAMP is a dead horse because it got shut down and V development clearly was the focus, I said how we are in the realisation of how good SAMP was now that it's gone, you clearly haven't read my post, SAMP would not be a "dead horse" if re-released.

Secondly, I never said GTA V isn't better, you seem to have just read the title and threw your opinion out that GTA V is better than SAMP, not read a thing I said, thanks for your opinion regardless.

  4. Before this is instantly shut down because staff are so against going back, let's have a discussion about it...please hear me out.

I understand all the hard work over the past few years and such to bring out this server, but let's be honest as MMartin has said in his post just now, the player base has been grim, the lack of features/updates hasn't been enough and overall the experience hasn't been great.

The server in it's current state is miles behind it's competitor, and as Martin said, miles behind the initial expectations we had for it, the server is years away from being a elite server like it's rival.

With the news not long ago of FiveM partnering with Rockstar, this more than likely means that GTA 6 will have RP servers soon post launch, and with the timeline most people are thinking, it looks like we are getting GTA 6 in 2025, this means LSRP has around 1.5 years of life, before let's be honest, the whole world plays GTA 6, and if it does have RP servers shortly after release, then a very small percentage of roleplay players are going to be on GTA 5, add this onto the chances that the other server continues to exist but stop working on future updates etc, and turn their attention to a GTA 6 server, you once again could be looking at a catch up situation.

I obviously have no say in the matter or stand even a small chance on my own to change your opinion, but if I was leadership and/or Martin, I would have a discussion about this, take this as a learning experience on what went well and what went wrong, re-release the SAMP server, understand that we are in a situation now where yes LSRP SAMP was declining due to GTA 5 taking off, but now we are massively in the "you don't realise how good something is till its gone" situation, the player base would sky rocket, we would have a incredible placeholder for a few years until GTA 6's release and then a community meeting could be held regarding GTA 6's development/SAMP's future. You already have a modernized forums in place, already a well known community and staff roster, right now I just see the staff fighting a losing battle, develop develop develop to try and catch up even a slice of the other server's player base/roleplay experience it offers, and then boom GTA 6 is out and GTA 5 RP dies quicker than SAMP did.

This is purely my opinion and thoughts on the matter, I'd like to hear other's serious thoughts on it, I'd like to hear staff's thoughts, and if they have taken into consideration GTA 6's not so far away release.

  5. i'd like to see more apartment blocks and living areas modded in, so many areas where there's just space wasted that could have a new block of apartments if someone has made a mod ofc, would definitely congest the map more due to more facs/gangs deciding to rp there and make the already enormous gta v map feel together and lively.

  6. Yes something needs to be added, we shouldn't choose a car to pay off then be forced to pay it off for a year(most ppl choose the cheapest weekly payments) before being able to get rid of it.

Should definitely add some sort of way to cancel the lease or whatever, whether that means we pay a fee to cancel it or something idk, but right now it sucks
