3 Gang Members Sentenced Following Retaliation Stabbing JUN/12/2017 LOS SANTOS — Three members of an East Vinewood street gang were sentenced to a combined 25 years for their roles in the 2016 stabbing of Bloods-affiliated gang rival Treyvaun Pope after the latter allegedly partially blinded one of the attackers in a previous assault. In separate hearings, US District Judge Randall Archuleta sentenced Soghomon Yeghoyan, 21, a/k/a "AP Pirate", of East Vinewood to 10 years in federal prison and ordered to pay $21,395 in restitution. Judge Archuleta also sentenced Robert Grigoryan, 20, of East Vinewood to 8 years in federal prison and ordered to pay $8,038 in restitution. Finally, Matous Garabedian, 22, a/k/a "AP Rapid", of Temple to 7 years in federal prison and ordered to pay $7,248 in restitution. Yeghoyan, Grigoryan, and Garabedian – all members of the East Vinewood-based Armenian Power (AP13) street gang – all pleaded guilty to one count of assault with a deadly weapon as well as breach of the peace. The harsh sentencing reflects the current Los Santos Mayor Jonathan Schrader's tough-on-crime, pro-police stance for which he won re-election into his second term earlier this year. In response to the sentencing, Mayor Schrader commented: "The sentencing of these individuals shows the need now, more than ever, for us to support our brave law enforcement officers in their selfless struggle to stamp out violence in our streets, whether committed against civilians or other criminals."3 points

Name: Sammy Bennett Age: 17 Ethnicity: African American Residence: Lives in a low-income housing project Family: Mother: Works long hours at multiple jobs. Father: Absent; never in the picture. Life in the hood: Sammy Bennett is born in a neighborhood where opportunity came in two forms: get out or get in. Most people got in. His mother, Lisa, tried to shield Sammy, working double shifts at a diner, but the streets taught faster than she could protect. The streets raised him louder than love ever could. Sammy is turning into a thug. He is sharp. He listened more than he spoke, kept his eyes open, and never made the same mistake twice. Sammy was exposed to violence, drug dealing, and the daily grind of survival. His childhood was fractured by his father’s abandonment and his mother’s inability to fully care for him.1 point
