The Graveyard Gangster Crips, also known as the Graveyard Crips or GYGC, are a relatively small, African-American Crip set located in Pico neighborhood of West Santa Monica, California, specifically behind Woodlawn Cemetery at Pico & 14th Street. Their turf generally spans Pico to Delaware, and 17th to 20th Streets, it emerged in the 1990s as a minor subset under the Gangster Crip (3x) umbrella.
The gang became the subject of law enforcement attention in 2009 via Operation Tombstone, a year-long investigation into a local homicide that led to arrests of several members.
GYGC shares territory-aligned tensions with nearby gangs like Venice Shoreline Crips and Venice 13, and has rivalries with Santa Monica 13, Culver City Boys, and Rollin 20s. The Graveyard Gangster Crips are currently inactive or faded out, new generation subset under the name WLGC follows their track.

The Woodlawn Gangster Crips (WGC) operate under the Gangster Crip 3x card, and emerged as a new generation subset of the Graveyard Gangster Crips (GYGC). With most of the older heads either locked up, gone, or out of the life, a younger group of locals from the Santa Maria Pico Boulevard stepped up to carry the flag forward under a new name, that was tied to the Woodlawn Cemetry in the same area.

The Woodlawn Gangster Crips were formed by a group of teens growing up in the same struggling neighborhood — exposed to poverty, broken homes, police pressure, and neighborhood politics from a young age. Most members are African-American youth between 13 and 19, shaped by their surroundings and influenced by older connections tied to the GYGC name.

While the set doesn’t claim heavy status or reputation, it stands as a reflection of a new generation trying to find identity, respect, and power in a city that overlooks them. The WLGC carries pieces of the old GYGC legacy but is carving out its own space and politics through the realities of modern gang culture.

"Little Bear" Murder

More than 300 people gathered at the Church of Christ in Santa Monica Friday after- noon to honor the life of Jalonnie Carter, a 19- year-old who was shot and killed Sept 2 on 20th Street.  Every seat in the small, modest church at Michigan Avenue and 15th Street was taken by Carter's friends, family and community members, who also spilled into the entry room and onto the front steps. Ladies fanned themselves with the service's program and nodded their heads in agreement as religious leader O.J. Dyson gave Carter's eulogy, describing him as a sweet, young man whose life was cut tragically short.

"He was not sick," Dyson said to the gathering, who throughout the eulogy replied with "that's right" and "amen." "It was not an accident. He was murdered by an unknown assailant. His life was too short. He was too good to leave us in such a brutal fashion."

Carter, who was known by friends and family as "Little Bear" and "Pooh Bear," was shot
in the back with a 22-caliber bullet that hit his heart while he was in the alley east of 20th Street, near Delaware and Michigan avenues.

Though there were five gang-related shootings in the neighborhood earlier this summer, family members said Carter was not a member of any gang. They described him as a hard- working young man who was studying for a career in computers while working two jobs.

Many Pico Blvd And Delaware Blvd residents and Woodlawn Community Members still remember his memory and keep his good soul alive around West Santa Maria
It was found later that he was murdered by Santa Maria 13. A rival gang that operated in the same Neighborhood.
