She’s just a girl from near 38th Street, the kind people notice without meaning to pretty, quick with a smile, always joking around like nothing ever really gets to her. But lately, things feel different. The laughs don’t come as easy, and the people she’s around now? They don’t play the same way. The faces she grew up with aren’t around like they used to be, and the streets she thought she knew have started to feel colder. She’s not a kid anymore, and it’s starting to show. What used to feel like fun now feels like a warning and she’s learning fast that out here, growing up means watching your back.
