  1. Is this a viable strategy? The conditions that you're competing with that I listed in my original post are going to be an ever present force on a supposed minority player base. Considering the skew in the server's population towards legal role players, it seems like a dangerous gamble to assume that the allure of better scripting and different leadership is going to be enough to not only convince your target minority demo to cross the road, but to keep them engaged in the face of what'll be a total reset for them? I think this issue compounds further with players in established factions that are going to levy the burden of losing positions and relationships with players who don't want to switch, or are otherwise not a candidate for their position on LS:RP that they otherwise already have (i.e. LEO factions). You are not going to siphon everybody, and from what I've gathered speaking to individuals, I don't think it's possible to simply refuse to engage with the civilian "second life" population because you or I disagree with their approach to role play. There just isn't enough of us. Responding to both you and Yekim, I can confirm that from what I've witnessed, the perception of gang role play is staggeringly different on GTA:W, and a minority of players look at African American / Latin gang role play with anything other than complete disdain. Think of the robberies argument on LS:RP except exponentially worse. That being said, from my point of view, these issues would need to be resolved in order for LS:RP to be successful, and identifying individual problems like Yekim had, along with realistic, implementable solutions needs to be done sooner rather than later. I don't mean to sound rude, but feel-good posts about how civilian role play will be "extremely good" without offering either evidence to support your claim such as planned implementations or individual ideas on how to accommodate these players lack any substance whatsoever. "Experience" is irrelevant if you don't apply it, and the purpose of the thread is to discuss said application. This was a major fuckup on LS:RP and it shouldn't be repeated. This was the result of an outdated faction selection system that in no way supported legal role play outside of LEOs. I think the most obvious example of this failure is that people in this thread, right now are mixing up the terminology and lumping in civilian role play with legal role play while others are communicating with the terms separate. You can implement individual features to promote businesses and civilian role play without immediately reverting to a copy of the faction system. Natasha_Valentine, knppel and ROZE deserved some form of official support for the civilian role play they engaged in and I voiced this several times to the chagrin of literally every other administrator, but because the rigid structure of the faction system did not accommodate anything outside of the C&R meta, people were simply unwilling to admit that after ten years of effort, they've earned something. The mentality we held of "if it doesn't reach my idea of official faction quality, it deserves nothing" is outdated and elitist. The company system remedied this, but was far too little, far too late. I would go as far to say that a good amount of the complaints I've heard about either of the players mentioned would have been remedied if we didn't just tell them to fuck off and figure it out on their own 90% of the time. The script is only better if the script is better. RAGE:MP affords more liberty to development but I'm asking how should the script along with the community be steered to help accommodate these players. For reference: Legal role play is the antithesis of illegal. It refers to factions that operate as law related agencies (LEO factions, gov, courts, arguably lawyers). Civilian is anything outside of this relationship. You may or may not be right, that's really up for time to tell. I'm moreso talking about what incentives LS:RP can offer to retain these players. You're definitely on point about the nonsense, though. I've seen players on both sides of the argument pound keyboards until their fingers were raw about either side. I agree completely. I would happily sit in a Discord call for hours on end, complaining about GTA:Ws information conveyance and staggeringly non intuitive commands, but in the same breath I'd be doing them a disservice if I didn't say the ad system, map markers, static points, and business payment script / business item creation script weren't all fantastic. In the spirit of this thread: LS:RP really should be observing the cause and effect relationships with some of these features and considering similar implementations if they aren't already. An idea that I toyed with in the past was creating administrative ran factions that would offer payment in return for role play, sort of like public utilities. GTA:W has automated this function with biz rp payments and it is very literally my favorite piece of GTA RP scripting. LS:RP offered pretty much nothing in the way of a legal income outside of trucking (which I would rather be dead than do). Something like this should definitely be mirrored in my personal opinion. You make a fair argument. I'm drawing a lot of parallels to the other community as they're my only real experience in the GTA 5 environment, and are the most similar to LS:RP. I know that both communities objectively will not take the same route / approach to a significant number of issues, but I think the situation LS:RP is in now very literally parallels 2008 GTA:SA. They've laid down a significant foundation and which simply translates to free market research. I agree about script incentives.

  2. If I'm being honest with you, and I mean no disrespect when I say this, but your comment is the epitome of the issues I cited in regards to SOME (not all) civilian rpers I don't wanna spend too much time bashing that server because to be frank, i don't really care what they're doing or what goes on over there anymore, as I've stopped playing, but from what I experienced, yes, the issue did stem from both sides, but it was far more of a thing on the civilian side of the spectrum, in fact, most of the sub-par robberies you likely experienced were committed by random dogshit factions that were too dogshit to even have a thread, or were done by people uninvolved in gang/illegal roleplay to begin with. Atleast 90% of illegal factions on that server did everything in their power to punish their members for engaging in subpar behaviour and if their members committed sub-par behaviour and weren't subsequently kicked from the faction, this is because the victim of the sub-par scene didn't even bother to look up the names of their attacker, or even to ask around to find out what faction the individual was in. I'm confident when I say that if you approach a faction leader about sub-par robberies committed by their members, 9 times out of 10 something is gonna happen as a result of it. Faction leaders want to hear about sub-par behaviour from their members so that they can get rid of them, if you don't point them out to these faction leaders, then nothing's gonna change, and nothing did change, mainly because they complain in general discussions more than they do in faction leaders' DM's, which results in faction leaders getting irritated with you or with civilian role players in general because they blame things on all factions and try to claim that illegal faction don't regulate their members, which is a blatant lie. In my opinion the problem that some civilian RPers have with illegal RP doesn't really lie with robberies, it lies with either not getting their way, or them perceiving a gang in a certain area that isn't South Central (Like Little Seoul or Vespucci) to be 'unrealistic', so they react with hostility IC, sometimes even disrespecting multiple gang members at once, they end up either stabbed, severely beaten, robbed or shot and generally get upset OOCly about that. For example, I once had a civilian roleplayer that was RPing a politician of some sort provoke my character in the middle of his territory for simply looking at her for a moment. My character was curious as to who she was and why she was suddenly hanging out on a corner in his hood, her response was to ask him 'Can I fucking help you?' and then to demand proof that the area she was standing was my character's territory. She got shot and wasn't very happy about it and as a result, reported me. That situation never caused me to look at all civilian roleplayers as being sub-par, or as all inherently bad. Some of the best RP scenes I've been part of on my gang related chars weren't always with my faction, in fact alot of them involved civilian roleplayers who were either living in the neighbourhood or just occasionally came around. The problem I have with civilian RPers is with the ones who as I mentioned before, show up to the ghetto as a complete random, act all superior, get put into your place (usually through violence) and then take to the forums to call the roleplay subpar, or to file a RPQ report that goes nowhere. Adding on to that, I had an alternative character on GTAW that I played quite often, she was a civilian mind you. I used to walk all over LS on the character and interact with pretty much everyone, gangs, cops and even other civilians. In my several months of RPing that char every day, I was only robbed once when I cut through an alleyway one time. I'll even go as far as to say that the overwhelming majority of gang role players protected the character I'm talking about from violence on multiple occasions, mainly because when my character carried herself like a civilian and it was quite obvious that she wasn't a criminal of any sort, so the gang didn't view her as a threat, nor did they try to get her out of their territory when she was there or attack/rob her. Because of this, it leads me to believe that all the talk of sub-par robberies is simply an exaggeration, though what isn't an exaggeration are the issues I've cited. With that said, though. I'm done criticizing that server because I don't wanna derail this thread too much. Also thankfully, LSRP never had problems in that scale when it came to civilian roleplayers. Despite my obvious disdain for that server, I can atleast agree with this. They did something cool with their ad system and map markers, along with their business system. I didn't get to experience too much of that script, but being paid for an hour of work was a very nice touch. Nobody ever wanted to roleplay working at 24/7's etc on LSRP because there was very little reward for the effort you put in to roleplaying. I'm confident though that LSRP can come up with something that's on par, if not even slightly better than what they have.

  3. Hey, I'm genuinely curious if courts are gonna be a thing on LSRP5. I remember that they used to be a thing on the SAMP-based LSRP, however was never really active or paid any attention to, due to the fact that they had very little say, and you were only able to contest charges after serving time for them (which was quite literally a counter-incentive to appealing them, and cops had a final say on whether you're gonna spend 10h in prison or not). My question is; will the criminal justice system be reworked here? I feel like implementing a system similiar to the one that currently works on GTAW would be a really neat addition to both legal and illegal roleplay. Also just to counter a couple points before they'll be brought up - I can guarantee you that there will be several people interested in roleplaying judges, lawyers, and prosecutors if that's made possible. I feel like a system like this doesn't harm anybody (even if the court cases are "roleplayed" via forums in order to save some time), and only enhances the entire experience.

  4. A lot of really good points raised here. One of the main reasons I was so amazed when I moved to World from LSRP before was the civilian roleplay aspect. You really don't realize how lacking LSRP was in this til you leave that bubble. GTA:W's huge playerbase isn't a majority of SAMP players anymore, they've taken in people from all types of games and all types of communities, games that aren't focused primarily around the cops vs criminals basis like LSRP was. This combined with it being fresh and new means a lot more passion and the sheer amount of script support for literally any idea possible means that the civilian side of roleplay there is thriving. LSRP needs to find ways to capture this audience too. I get that one of LSRPs main pulls right now is that they're going to bring good illegal roleplay to the scene but times have changed and actual real focus on the civilian sector needs to be taken into account too for the server to do well. As Apophis mentioned GTA:W has nailed this with features such as the custom item script, roleplaying for cash in businesses and driving players to these businesses with the icon system and just the sheer amount of cool little features players can build whole businesses around such as the scuba script, the animal npcs, allowing the purchase of niche vehicles like mowers and so much more. Things like this need to be thought about too as they may not seem like high priority tasks but allowing for players to get this creative and entertain any idea they want means people are happier. The way civillian roleplay was handled on SAMP wasn't done well at all. There was no incentive or support and barely any infrastructure in place to support people until the Company idea launched. I think this from the start dissuaded people from pursuing civilian roleplay and from 2016-2017 it took a huge decline, gone were the days of big companies such as Roux and others with their multiple divisions and different sectors. You saw small groups start up but none lasted very long. The Company script was an amazing leap in the right direction to support civilian roleplay and it allowed for people to pursue these ideas with actual support. Things like that need to be built on with this platform as it just has so much possibility and allows for things you couldn't even dream of with SAMP. Players will create cool things if they're given the support to do so, for example, the golf course being ran on GTA:W as a private members only club was cool. It was immersive and it gave countless opportunities to other members; fundraisers being held, low level businessmen acting above their means and just a general place for high society to mingle. All of this was able to take place due to the infrastructure in place to support civilian roleplay in the first place. Building on what Apophis said regarding @ROZE and co, their roleplay wasn't always the best and it is undeniable that a lot of the stuff they did wasn't the highest standard but holy shit did they do more for keeping the server alive and thriving in 2019-2021 than anyone else could've dreamt of. The amount of events, functions and just general activities that were planned, organised and hosted by them with barely any support from staff is astounding. The water park event was very cool and brought the playerbase up to a peak that hadn't been seen in a while. They hosted a myriad of other events such as derbys etc too with big success rates. With a lack of server hosted events bar the Halloween or Christmas ones it was so cool to see the community come together and enjoy something again. Major props to you and I made sure to tell you from the start how cool what you were doing was. Now imagine that happening weekly; people hosting shit that makes people see it and go woah that's cool, unique, fun and a break from the monotamous roleplay that being a civilian can provide. It keeps passion flowing and keeps people interested and motivated. World, when I played, had (has?) this nailed down to a T. There was constantly things to do, events such as; triathlons, group hikes, beach parties, boat parties, camping trips, scuba lessons, jetskiing groups, pilot lessons, hunting groups and so so much more. It's early here so sorry for any mistakes and I apologize for going on a bit of a tangent but the TL:DR is that although elite illegal RP is one of LSRPs biggest pulls right now civillian RP can't be neglected as GTA V is a new age for roleplay; one where this server can't boil down to Cops vs Robbers with a little sprinkle of civillian roleplay anymore and so support for this sector will need to be greatly increased from what it was on SAMP

  5. Hello everyone, I'd like to start by introducing a little bit about myself. I'm a long-term member of LS-RP, I've been roleplaying and been a part of this community since December 2008. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was my favourite childhood game and LS-RP has been home for me for quite literally a decade and change now. Over the years I have learned a lot of useful things that could benefit me as a gamer and individual on LS-RP which includes a little thing called modding which is what I want to primarily talk about on this topic. I want to beforehand state that I don't mean to offend anyone by any of my following statements, I'm merely voicing out my own opinion and bringing awareness to what is happening between Rockstar Games' legal team and some modders. Rockstar Games has a parent company called Take-Two also known as Take2 or T2 . Now what is Take-Two you might ask and why am I mentioning it in this topic? well Take-Two is an American publisher, developer and distributor of video and computer games but overall to simplify, Take-Two is sort of the legal branch of Rockstar Games. Now this company has publicly stated that a group of modders knowingly committed copyright infringement by reverse engineering GTA III and Vice City. Now they have filed a lawsuit against these modders which reverse engineered two of their popular titles under project names such as re3 and reVC which is why I've created this thread. Being an amateur self-taught Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas modder I've decided to voice out my opinion on the matter and raise awareness about the ongoing situation. Now you might ask what is re3 and reVC? well re3 is a project from a software developer and modder who goes by the alias td512 which simply put ports things into other games. In this case these two projects are completely focused on GTA III and Vice City. To once again simplify it, they simply enhance player experience for your average joe to enjoy the game more, they DO NOT harm anyone or anything. They might alter some things and open the doors to other modders or users to have a more joyful experience and share the creativity and love that the creators themselves have for the video game titles and the project, that's all. However Take-Two sees this as theft as can be seen in the following which was written in the lawsuit: "Defendants have made the games fully and freely available to the public, have appropriated a market that belongs to Take-Two (namely, the market for modified or handheld versions of the games), and enabled countless others to now create their own unauthorized derivative versions of the games." It clearly noticeable that they feel threatened that some other people (modders) will use this software to further on re-create or shape their titles without their consent or legal ownership of these digital components which is completely a-ok because as a content creator/modder myself I wouldn't want someone else to use my stuff without my consent unless I've released it to the public because at the end of the day I've put in work to create that project and it is up to me now as the legal owner of that project to decide what to do with it, right? However what isn't okay is the lack of vision that these projects do not harm anybody or the original content itself. From my point of view as a fellow modder these guys were simply expressing their creativity, inventiveness and good will to create something that will benefit the whole community of those video game titles. Because lets be honest most of us have at some point used some sort of modification in a Grand Theft Auto game, may that be a skin, a weapon, clothing, mapping, textures, script or whatever else you can think of. Now what is the big problem in all of this? the big problem is that Take-Two decided to resort to such drastic measures to sue a modder which might as well could've of been me, or the person who is reading this who is familiar with modding for simply trying to make something better for their own and others enjoyment as said here: Take-Two is seeking damages and injunctive relief against the mod team, and suggests the group has already acted in bad faith by filing counter notifications that "materially misrepresented the legality of their content" when Take-Two initially tried to have both projects shut down. "When Take-Two attempted to remove Defendants' infringing source code from the internet, at least three Defendants (acting in at least one instance with other Defendants' participation and direction) knowingly filed bad faith counter notifications that materially misrepresented the legality of their content, apparently claiming that because they all 'reverse engineered' the games' source code, they somehow cannot be liable for copyright infringement," adds the filing. "Yet while making this claim, Defendants also have bragged that their derivative versions of the Games are functionally and visually identical to the originals, and have even suggested they be used for unauthorised 'modding purposes.'" Along with statutory damages, Take-Two is demanding all materials related to re3 and reVC, including all copies of the modified games, financial information, and the source code itself, be turned over. Which they successfully have achieved as can be seen here: To be open about it, I don't know these content creators who have done this but I'm definitely seeing some sort of hypocrisy to an extent here. I would like to now take a moment and voice out my own opinion about modding in general from my own perspective on a Rockstar Games title (San Andreas). First and foremost San Andreas is a 2004 game but the online community of sa-mp has advanced beyond any persons imagination. Those very people who bought the title and played it wholeheartedly decided to learn how to make the game better, fix the small issues left behind by the original developers after they've moved on to other titles and so on. But never ever have I heard personally about someone harming someone else by creating a harmless script which might fix something for example like the rain bug in San Andreas or a trainer for changing pedestrian skins in singleplayer mode, have you? Many other communities have lost their whole foundation because of the spree that has been going on and it just seems that more modders are going to get hit with a lawsuit and have their work deleted. Here's an example: It is safe to say that what they are doing is going a bit too far against the very same people who are so passionate to learn about their projects. Now recently a known modder and developer who goes by Silent who has created things such as the SilentPatch and Silent's Asi Loader and so on has voiced out his opinion on the matter and partially announced his departure from modding because of the recent events, he has some key points so I'll leave the image below for those interested in reading his opinion on the matter: Now this isn't democracy nor do I have any malicious intent with any of this. I understand both sides of the story and I partially remain unbiased which is up to my own opinion. After seeing many modders departing from years of creation and Take-Two seemingly crumbling bigger content creators in their own games I can't help to wonder, who's next? It kind of seems that modding in general is coming slowly to an end in general because modders are now being threatened with lawsuits. The question I have is what do you guys think about this whole thing? do you think they will prohibit GTA V modding, do you think this is the end for modding in general and that every server will be forced to play on a stock game with no mapping, unique scripting or any other sort of harmless modification? I sure hope not but hey don't shoot the messenger, ok? I just haven't seen anybody talking about this so I decided to bring it forward to see what LS-RP as a community thinks about this. Thank you for reading all that if you have, I know it was a long journey to the bottom of this post but I believe it is a good topic for a conversation. I'll leave below also a video of someone else commenting on the matter as well. Peace!

  6. Hi all, Rules of Engagement The Faction Team has completely re-written the Rules of Engagement and this has now been finalized. The Rules of Engagement may be subject to amendments/changes after server launch. A Q&A topic will be created in the Faction Team Public Section to ask questions about the ROE. No suggestions for alterations to the ROE will be taken until at-least a month after the server has launched and it has been trialed. The Rules of Engagement can be found on the top menu bar under 'Rules'. For ease, you can also find the Rules of Engagement here. All Factions are expected to familiarize themselves with the Rules of Engagement, no grace period will be given after the launch of the server - hence why these are being released now pre-launch to give everyone a reasonable amount of time to get familiar with them. Faction Team Public Faction Team Public has now been re-created and has been set up on the new forums. This is ran and managed by the entire Faction Team. If you're interested in providing your input on the illegal roleplay scene then joining the Faction Team Public is one of the first steps to joining the Faction Team. You'll be responsible for providing your input on any topics surrounding illegal roleplay and factions, along with coming up with ideas and suggestions of your own to enhance the illegal roleplay scene. In order to be considered for the Faction Team Public you're required to have experience and knowledge of the illegal roleplay scene. We're looking for individuals who are able to work well within a team and can maintain a consistent activity. You must also have a good standing within the community. You can join the Faction Team Public here. You may have to wait some time for your membership to be accepted or denied. Faction Team Recruitment We are once again looking to add some fresh faces to the Faction Team. If you're someone with an interest in developing the illegal roleplay scene on LS-RP then this position may be of interest to you! You'll be expected to actively contribute towards discussions surrounding illegal roleplay and factions and attend team meetings on a weekly basis. We're looking for people with experience and knowledge of the illegal roleplay scene who can work well within a team. You're also required to be a member of Faction Team Public and be actively contributing there to be considered for the team. Information on joining the Faction Team can be found inside the Faction Team Public section here. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all! Thanks for reading, Baker

  7. GUIDE TO PAISA ROLEPLAY @Freedom Fighter, @EGN & @Nuke Introduction Understanding Narco culture USA Paisa Prison culture & Paisa Gangs USA based Paisa plenipotentiaries Females in the Narco underworld Summary Everything above is what you can expect to read about and learn in this guide, the guide itself will be kept somewhat short but still detailed enough to give people a deep insight to how they should roleplay their characters. This guide will be simply what it’s intended for, a guide, so don’t expect me to hold your hand and give you a step by step walkthrough. INTRODUCTION Hey there, if you’re reading this then it’s probably because you want to know more about roleplaying a Mexican National, if so there’s a lot of stuff you need to know about roleplay as a person involved in the Paisa criminal underworld. It can get very tricky and complex, to a point that a lot of stuff can actually get confusing. We’ve personally been roleplaying in the Paisa scene for years and a lot of our knowledge has been gathered through external sources, reading between the lines, speaking to certain individuals that have grown up around Narco traffickers etc, although we’re not experts on the subject, we do believe our knowledge is enough to justify reasoning to make this. Also, lil tip it’s pronounced “Pie-sa”, “Pie-sa-no”, “Pie-sa-na”. UNDERSTAND NARCO CULTURE Understanding Narco culture can be quite confusing at times, especially if you don’t know an awful lot about the background of Mexico, and how traffickers evolved from individual plaza (turf) bosses running their own designated sections, to eventually being aligned to many of the different cartels throughout the country. The thing with Narco traffickers is, at the very beginning they were all mostly from the state of Sinaloa, and keep this in your head because it plays a major connection a bit further into this guide, but originally it was plaza bosses running their own little turfs until Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo had a bright idea to form Mexico’s first Narco commission, which became known as the Guadalajara Cartel; Mexico’s very first legitimate “Cartel”. But the major thing about this? The Guadalajara Cartel didn’t just become powerful due to having plaza bosses operating as a union under them, quite the opposite, sure it was a part in their power uprise but if it wasn’t for the Dirección Federal de Seguridad (DFS) the Guadalajara Cartel wouldn’t have been anything. The DFS is sort of like the CIA of Mexico, but the FBI at the same time. You’re probably wondering why I’m giving you this rundown, well it’s pretty simple because the Cartels in Mexico are usually backed by someone; the most powerful ones that is. It’s not hard to figure this out of course, but another major part of understanding Narco culture, especially in the modern day and age is to understand the political parties that are in Mexico. ] See, the thing is parties like MORENA and the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) are all allegedly backing Cartels to this very day in Mexico. Two examples of this is MORENA allegedly backing the Sinaloa Cartel and the PRI allegedly backing the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. This is one of the biggest issues when it comes to Narco roleplay, understanding the political parties, their goals and history because to fully understand the Narco underworld in Mexico, you first need to understand the political parties that run it. You remember The Zetas? The first group of mad men to turn Mexico’s Narco warfare into militarized combat? I’ll give you a few seconds to figure out how they managed to reign in huge control for almost a decade without any interference. That’s right, if you guessed the PRI then you know more than I thought you know already. See the PRI ruled Mexico through various presidential elections for decades upon decades, not losing a single one meaning they had control of the country, but when the MORENA party won one election it set off a ticking timebomb in the country that forever changed the criminal underworld in it. At the time the Zetas weren’t really known as the Zetas per say n were still coming up, and hadn’t fully found their identification yet but the PRI took note of them being Ex Cuerpo de Fuerzas Especiales (GAFES) and decided to manipulate it to their favour, helping a paramilitarized wing of the Gulf Cartel rise to power and eventually become their own thing once they split. Does this remind you of anything? That’s also right, if you guessed the Jalisco New Generation Cartel you know more than I thought you already knew. Just like the Z splitting from GAFES, Mencho split from the Milenio Cartel and with the PRI’s backing ended up forming CJNG. So I think by now you’re pretty versed in knowing that without political parties pulling strings, nothing would go. Now, you remember I mentioned Sinaloa priorly? Remember I said keep it in the back of your mind? Well that’s because most of these Cartels were once headed by Sinaloense Capos, who were mostly born in Badiraguato; described as Mexican Sicily. Sinaloa Cartel, Tijuana Organization, Juarez Organization etc were all founded by Sinaloan traffickers at one point in time. There’s also a common popular fashion trend in Mexico called Buchón/Buchóna fashion, this originated in Sinaloa and is now used country wide. The Buchón/Buchóna fashion trend was a way most Narco traffickers dressed, and eventually before you knew it, it became a common day trend among many people in the Mexican countryside and mountains. A contributing factor to the militarization of various drug cartels operating in Mexico is the recruitment of special forces, from both Mexico and other countries such as the Kaibiles of Guatemala. The majority of cartel operatives do not have military experience, and are instead trained by those who do. While the number of special forces who desert and join these organizations is generally low, the cartels supplement this by hiring police officers wherever they can. While it's rare for corrupt law enforcement to participate in crime in the United States, these cells filled entirely with Municipal police officers commit some of the most heinous murders and high profile kidnappings. Many "murder houses" were discovered to have been ran by such police cells. One's position in the organization depends on the skills a person provides for leadership such as logistical experience or business degrees. This assigns you to a position in the pyramid, the top dedicated to the most influential individuals and families controlling the entity itself. Once assigned a position it is very hard to rise above middle management, this could be equated to a lifetime position at a company but without the ability to move up to the very top. Despite what the media tells you, El Chapo was not the zenith of Sinaloa's hierarchy. They will also put their reputation behind other groups from south and central america, such as but not limited to Colombians, Cubans, Guatemalans, Panamanians and Venezuelans. They use such people who overstay their visas and remain illegally within Mexico to extort street vendors, clubs and taxi companies among many other businesses. This sophisticated scam is common throughout Latin America, known as 'gota a gota', offering small loans through Colombian front men and then begin to pressure more money by increasing the interest rates by %400 within only a few weeks. Another thing to keep in mind with the Narco underworld is that everyone is kept tabs on, what I mean by this is if you’re employed to work with a Cartel cell, chances are they already know more about you than you know about yourself. The reason for this is, it’s hugely beneficial for them to know who they’re employing, and when it comes to the fear factor, family and close friends are often threatened. Those with relatives are normally the ones that get second chances and stuff with their family being used as collateral, whilst those employed without relatives are usually given one shot and if they fuck up they’re tossed to the trash pile, the reasoning for this yet again is to ensure safety of the organization as a person who has something to lose is more likely to follow commands than someone who has nothing to lose would. "La Santa Muerte has crossed the US/Mexico Border for over a decade, accompanying her devotees on their arduous journeys north. Also known as La Flaquita (The Skinny One), La Niña Blanca (The White Girl), La Niña Negra (The Black Girl), Señora de las Sombras (Lady of the Shadows), La Huesuda (Bony Lady), La Niña Bonita (The Pretty Girl), La Madrina (The Godmother), and more reverently, La Santísima Muerte (The Most Holy Death), she is a beloved saint of dispossessed peoples. I first met Santa Muerte in 2002 during fieldwork with undocumented migrant transgender sex workers from Guadalajara, Mexico, who lived in San Francisco. Santa Muerte featured prominently on home altars in their single-room occupancy hotel rooms. I had not encountered the saint before and was surprised by her obvious importance in their lives. Thus began over a decade of following Santa Muerte to Mexico, California, the US/Mexico Border, and even small towns in northern Wisconsin. In the early years of my research, few people in Mexico would talk to me about her, and few in the US knew of her; she was either underground or unknown. Now, the Bony Lady is “out” and very visible. Since early 2000, worship has grown dramatically in Mexico and in the US, especially among migrants. I came to understand her popularity among migrants and LGBTQ communities in Mexico; she is associated with those living precarious lives and/or engaged in dangerous undertakings. What surprised me, however, was that government entities both in the US and in Mexico, shared my interest in the Bony Lady. The Drug Enforcement Agency, the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, the Mexican government, and the Mexican military all actively oppose the worship of Santa Muerte. A Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) law enforcement bulletin claims: “Santa Muerte informational training can prove so stressful for some law enforcement and public safety officers that they can become physically ill and pass out. This has happened more than once. Programs and writings concerning wellness and spirituality can provide ‘spiritual armor’”" The practice and worship of Santa Muerte is widely known for its crossing of Catholic symbology with indigenous beliefs featuring totems, amulets, curses and blessings as well as sacrifice. The most common and visual display of worship is the act of putting offerings to the spirit world in the form of an altar. This altar is commonly known as an ofrenda, used by Mexican peoples to celebrate Día de Muertos, a tradition dating back to the Aztecs. The ofrenda is usually a table adorned with fine and colorful fabrics with offerings of fruits, cigarettes, candies and alcohol. Central to the display is usually pictures of deceased family members, represented in spirit. In the worship of Santa Muerte, the ofrenda takes the form of an idol. Usually one depicted as a woman wearing a hooded robe, carrying a scythe and a globe. Different color schemes will represent different virtues or aspects of the Holy Death. This symbology is largely borrowed from medieval Spanish mythology, but the ritual itself derives from pagan worship common to the Americas and across the world. The ofrenda dedicated to Santa Muerte with her statues also has offerings, believed as sacrifice in exchange for boons such as good luck or protection from harm. Dedicated practitioners will perform blood sacrifice rituals, using animals such as pigs and chickens. Human sacrifice is known, and relatively common where criminals practice the religion. They do this with a fierce and zealous belief that this can protect them from the schemes of their enemies, protect drug shipments crossing U.S. customs but above all else they use Santa Muerte as a spiritual tool to enforce cohesion of their organization. Fear has been a driving force for controlling and subduing individuals initiated into any secret society or ancient mystery school. So too does the modern incarnation of such phenomena use these tools to brainwash and dominate those who work below them in the hierarchy. Jesús Malverde, possibly born as Jesús Juarez Mazo, sometimes known as the "Cjuba Lord", "angel of the poor", or the "narco-saint", is a folklore hero in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. He was of Yoreme and Spanish heritage. He is a "Robin Hood" figure who was supposed to have stolen from the rich to give to the poor. Malverde is a popular Mexican folk saint known as the unofficial patron saint of drug traffickers. Malverde also is known as the "Generous Bandit" and the "Angel of the Poor," said Robert Almonte, a law enforcement consultant who has extensively researched the "narco-saint" phenomenon who gave presentations at the El Paso seminar. The Mexican folk saint is popular with those in the drug trade but "you have people who are not involved in criminal activity that pray to him as the Angel of the Poor," Almonte explained. Malverde is depicted with black hair, a black mustache and looks a little like Clark Gable with a neckerchief. He is sometimes depicted holding money. His image can be found on everything from religious figurines, votive candles, key chains and T-shirts. Malverde is not recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church. The Malverde legends say he was a Mexican Robin Hood-type bandit who stole from the rich and gave to the poor in the late 1800s and early 1900s in the Pacific Coast state of Sinaloa. Sinaloa is the traditional fatherland for many groups in the region's drug trade that grew into the Mexican drug cartels. Drug traffickers adopted Malverde because they see themselves in the good-hearted bandit, Almonte said. “The Mexican cartels acknowledge 'we are doing a bad thing but more importantly we’re doing a bad thing for the right reasons; we’re helping the poor.' So, they adopted him as a patron saint," Almonte said. Almonte is a former U.S. marshal for the Western District of Texas and a retired deputy chief with the El Paso Police Department. He started researching saints revered by Mexican drug traffickers while working as a police narcotics officer in the 1980s. There is debate whether Juan Malverde ever actually existed. According to legends, Malverde was a bandit named Jesus Juárez Mazo, who wore green as camouflage to surprise and rob wealthy victims and would give to the poor in the mountains of Sinaloa. The Mexican government eventually caught Malverde and supposedly hanged him May 3, 1909. In the legend, miracles, such as finding lost objects, were attributed to Malverde. Believers pray to him for good luck, protection, health and other needs. The name Malverde is a combination of the Spanish words for "bad" (mal) and "green" (verde). By the 1970s, Mexican drug traffickers had adopted Malverde as their "patron saint," Almonte said. The legend of the folk saint was celebrated in ballads. "De Culiacan a Colombia, que viva Jesús Malverde, este santo del colgado que ha traido buena suerte," sang Los Cadetes de Linares on the "Corrido de Jesus Malverde." The ballad says, "From Culiacan to Colombia, long live Jesus Malverde, the hanged saint has brought good luck." Almonte said he first learned of Malverde in the early 1990s as belief in the folk saint spread deep into the United States. “I began noticing that not only was he popular along the Southwest border area, but I was getting officers in Minnesota, officers in Iowa, Wisconsin, telling me they are encountering Jesus Malverde in drug cases," Almonte said. USA PAISA PRISON CULTURE & PAISA GANGS This part of Paisa roleplay is often overlooked for some reason, but it can actually be the funnest experience you’ll ever have when it comes to Paisa roleplay. See the thing is, people see “Paisa” as a faction concept and automatically think about drug Cartel cells but don’t think about prison gangs or street gangs like the Border Brothers 22 prison gang, Barrio Azteca 21 prison gang, Paisa Tango prison gang, Varrio Paisa 5/Hill 22 street gang, Krazy Ass Paisas 16 street gang etc. But need not worry, I’m here to help you with that today! The first thing to do when looking at USA based Prison Organizations and Street Gangs is understand the fundamentals of it, and honestly? If you know how to roleplay Sureño, Norteño, Crip or Blood, then learning to roleplay a Paisa Street gang won’t be that hard. I won’t be writing how you should do gang roleplay here, because I’m sure there’s plenty of guides on the forums about that, instead I’m going to directly focus on what a Paisa Prison Organization or Street Gang is. The thing when it comes to Paisa Prison Organizations and Street Gangs is that you need to understand they don’t operate the same way most USA based Prison Organizations and Street Gangs do. Let me start off by explaining the USA Paisa Prison Organizations first, since it’ll get it out of the way and easier for you to understand one by one instead of me jumping back and forth nonstop between the both of them. Paisa (Mexican National) Prison Organizations in the United States of America are very different from your normal everyday Prison Organizations like the Aryan Brotherhood, Mexican Mafia, Nuestra Familia, Black Mafia Family, KUMI 415, Family Affiliated Irish Mafia etc. The reasoning behind this is because most of the inmates in State Penitentiaries and Federal Penitentiaries that rock the Paisa banner are immigrants that are locked up, or 1st/2nd generation Mexican-Americans with direct links to immigrants. Many organizations like the Paisa Tangos, Barrio Azteca 21, Border Brothers 22, Borrachos, etc were all formed by Mexican Nationals that came to the United States of America and ended up being locked up at either State or Federal level within the country. Although there’s a Paisa presence throughout the United States of America, the dominant presence is on the West Coast and Southern area of the United States as it’s where most ended up during lockup. Many Paisa Prison Organizations are also subsidiary drug distribution hubs for Cartels and are used on the outside with their individual crews to market and distribute narcotics at times. Paisa Prison Organizations, especially on the West Coast are usually allied and friendly with the Mexican Mafia due to cultural drives. Border Brothers Prison Gang The Border Brothers gang was founded in 1989 by Sergio Gonzalez-Martinez and others in Tijuana, Mexico and spread into San Andreas in 1990; recruiting criminal illegal immigrants in barrios across San Andreas, Arizona, Nevada, Denver and Tijuana Mexico. The organization runs the bulk of their operations through San Diego, Los Santos, Fresno and Oakland. The Border Brothers will often identify themselves through the letters BB or the number 22; as well as 2=B or XXII. It’s also not uncommon to see the depiction of a jaguar-shaped Aztec warrior god’s head, Ocelotl, encircled by flames, with eight elongated flames to depict their affiliation. Their clothing is another means to identify them, where members will most often dress in black or blue clothes, with bandanas. The Border Brothers are classified as one of the fastest growing STGs (Security Threat Groups), and are considered to have the highest and most validated members by the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Re-entry from their latest report. As such, they seem to work under two distinct branches: street and prison. The prison gang operates under a paramilitary structure of President, Vice President, generals, lieutenants, sergeants and soldiers, whilst the street gangs are more loosely organized. Some of the most important things that separates Border Brothers from other Latino criminal organizations is their utilization of a high number of “Paisas”; Mexican Nationals who live or become incarcerated in the US, usually on drug trafficking charges across country borders. This allowed the organization to operate under the radar by generating less controversy compared to Sureños and Norteños. This is achieved by staying quiet in the criminal sphere, keeping strictly to themselves, only speaking Spanish and not claiming territory (Pogrebin, Qualitative Approaches to Criminal Justice: Perspectives from the Field, 2002, Page 306). In regard to race, an article published by East Bay Times (Scott Johnson, May 2011) states that the Border Brothers tend to accept people of all races. An “OG” (original gangster) Border Brother was documented stating the following: “We don’t discriminate, if they’re down to die for us, they’re welcome. It doesn’t matter if he’s black or white, anything. But if you turn your back on us, that’s another story.” Pogrebin also quotes another testimony stating the following: “The Border Brothers don’t want to have anything to do with Sureños-Norteños. They keep out of that ‘cause it’s not our fighting and all of that is stupid... Either you are a Chicano or you’re not. There is no sense of being separated (Case 3).” (Qualitative Approaches to Criminal Justice: Perspectives from the Field, 2002, Page 306) P16 Prison Gang The paisas 16 are mostly composed of Mexican Nationals who were arrested while crossing the border into the United States illegally. The majority of them are not into criminal activity in the West Coast but they do operate as a gang in Texas under the "Tango Mexicles" banner. In the union, members refer to themselves as "paisano" or just "paisa". Their affiliation is considered "light" (strictly to prison) and their initiation requirements vary from each facility. The gang was mainly formed to seek independence from what they perceived as "negative" prison gangs that operated under the "blood in-blood out" vision which states that the only way to leave the gang is by death. Although their major strength resides within the federal prison system of the United States, it is also believed that members from the "Mexicles Union" have presence in many other states and that their membership could go from 20,000 to 23,000 validated individuals. In the state of Texas they formed their own "Tango" chapter known as "Tango Mexicles" and a lot of its members are Salvadoran, Colombian, Guatemalan and Honduran amongst other Latin-Americans. The number 16 represents the letter P of the alphabet and members of the gang might wear some Mexican culture tattoos such as the Mexican eagle, the Mexican coat of arms or the "Hecho en México" (Made in Mexico) official commercial logo eagle as well as the portraits of Mexico's Independence heroes with the likes of Emiliano Zapata and Francisco Villa. PRM (Partido Revolucionario Mexicano) The PRM was founded in 1987-1988 in TDCJ’s Coffield Unit by six inmates who wanted to protect themselves from other offenders and prison groups. Until 1994, the PRM was comprised of only Mexican nationals and individuals of Mexican descent. After 1994, recruitment was opened to individuals of Latin descent from Central and South America. In July 2005, TDCJ formally identified the PRM as an STG. Members of the PRM identify themselves as “Borrachos.” The PRM tattoo often incorporates the letters "PRM" and/or the emblem on the Mexican flag (i.e., eagle, snake, cactus, and half wreath). The words "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" may be added above the eagle. The number “6” is a code number used to identify membership (Note: There are six letters in the word “Mexico” and “Mezcal”) and the tattoo “P31” is also used (“R” is the 18th letter of the alphabet and “M” is the 13th letter; thus “P” + 18 + 13 = P31). In addition, since the group has used the word “borracho” (Spanish for “drunk”) to denote membership, some members may bear a tattoo of a Mexican male sitting on the ground, wearing a sombrero tilted forward, with a bottle of Mezcal or Tequila in his hand or beside him. Tangos The Tangos are one of the fastest growing groups in Texas, both within the prison system and on the streets, and are attaining near fad status. The term “Tango” is derived from Spanish slang and indicates a “town or hometown clique”. The term also refers to the letter T in the International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet, commonly known as the NATO phonetic alphabet or the ICAO phonetic alphabet to indicate that the group operates in the whole of Texas. Membership is usually voluntary and based on the geographic location where the offender resides. The rules governing Tango membership are less stringent than those required for STGs, which have historically adhered to a “blood in-blood out” philosophy. Tangos also abide by an existing set of basic written rules that specifically outline the expectations of their members. The Tangos and their behavior within the prison system are more consistent with other self-protection groups; however, the Tangos have also evolved into groups that, because of their large numbers, have successfully challenged the more established STGs. Presently, TDCJ’s Security Threat Group Management Office monitors the Tango groups, but does not recognize them as a validated STG. The four largest Tango groups, known collectively as the “Four Horsemen,” are “Houstone” from Houston; “D-Town” from Dallas; “Foritos” from Fort Worth; and “ATX” or “Capirucha” from Austin. Other Tango groups include the “Vallucos” from the Rio Grande Valley; the West Texas Tangos (WTX) from West Texas and the Texas Panhandle; “Corpitos” from Corpus Christi; “San Anto” or “Orejones” from San Antonio; and “EPT” from El Paso. Some Tangos may also identify themselves as being “Tango Blast” (TB), which is not so much a separate organization as it is an indication that the offender has participated in heightened criminal activity on behalf of the organization. The term “blasting” refers to involvement in violent or disruptive criminal behavior against other gang members or criminal justice personnel, particularly inside the Texas prison system. Most Tangos who claim TB membership come from the Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston areas. Tango structure and leadership vary in and out of prison. Within the prison system, Tangos elect a representative for each unit, known as a “Spokesman,” as well as a designated speaker for each pod, wing, or dorm who reports directly to the Spokesman. Outside of prison, the Tango groups appear to be more loosely organized. They operate in small groups and cells without a well-defined structure or identified leader. Tangos are involved in a variety of criminal activity, including auto theft, burglaries, narcotics trafficking, illegal alien smuggling, home invasions, robberies, kidnappings, and homicide—all offenses that have historically been committed by STGs. Furthermore, as a result of technological advancements and easier access to automated information, law enforcement can expect to see an increase in a wide variety of computer-related crimes by the newer and technologically-savvy gang members, including identity theft, fraud, and other financial crimes. The Internet has also provided gangs an avenue of communication and self-promotion that has not been available to them in the past. With the younger generation’s increasing attraction to living the “Thug Life” or becoming a “G,” these groups will continue to pose a legitimate threat to the public, law enforcement, and criminal justice personnel at all levels. Tango members can be identified by their tattoos, which usually depict a hometown sports team and/or the team logo, a city skyline, area code numbers representing their hometowns, or the slang term for their hometown. Tangos who claim to be TB members may also use the tattoo “16-20-2” to represent the 16th, 20th, and 2nd letters of the alphabet, or “PTB,” which stands for “Puro Tango Blast.” The Paisa Tango Mexicles was formed in the Texas prison system by a group of Mexican nationals and immigrants who banded together to protect themselves from being recruited or assaulted by other STGs. Although members of this gang may be tattooed with the word “Mexicle” or “Mexicles,” the term is not used exclusively by them. The word “Mexicle” is a term used to describe a Mexican citizen and thus is sometimes found in tattoos worn by members of other gangs, such as the Partido Revolucionario Mexicano (PRM). The next one is Paisa (Mexican National) Street Gangs in the United States of America. This is a very complex subject to touch on, mainly because gangs like Sureños, Norteños, Crips and Bloods all have Paisas as members internally, so what I’m going to do here is touch on overall Paisa Street Gangs like Varrio Paisa 5/Hill 22, Krazy Ass Paisas 16 and such. See alongside your standard Mexican-American street gangs, African-American street gangs and Asian-American street gangs, you also have Latin-American street gangs that exist in the United States of America, Mexican Nationals being the dominant membership most of the time inside of these street gangs. They’re normally used at street level for Paisa Prison Organizations and drug Cartels, to either distribute drugs at street level or handle USA based hits and such. There’s not many Paisa Street gangs that actually exist, at least to my knowledge, so it the concept in itself is quite rare and underrated as it’s often overlooked when Street Gang roleplay is considered. Paisa Street Gangs typical are a hybrid of organized crime and street crime mixed into one, sort of like Armenian Power 13 (Although using AP13 as an example can be taken the wrong way, as they’re more of a Mob) / Mara Salvatrucha 13 if you were to use it as a comparison, since they’re kind of deemed a street gang by the authorities, but their main drive is organized criminal activities in the end. But all in all, when they hit the yard, they claim Paisa and run Paisa. USA BASED PAISA PLENIPOTENTIARIES There are many different transnational criminal organizations operating with the cartels who constitute their own transnational criminal organizations. Some of these include Mexican street gangs who have migrated across the U.S. border to make their smuggling activities independant. These include the Paisas, Border Brothers and the Xalisco Boys. The latter are very well known for having revolutionized the drug retail business for such organizations, providing cheap prescription medication, heroin and other narcotics without the use of open air drug markets, instead delivering directly to the customer. This allowed the Xalisco Boys to spread across many states. Although the Xalisco Boys are somewhat more complicated, as not all of them are deemed to be Paisanos and operate under the Paisa banner, in fact it's quite the opposite where many of the USA based Xalisco Boys; especially in California, tend to fall in line with Californian chapter of the Mexican Mafia (EME). While some started as street or prison gangs under a cartel's control, most have evolved to enjoy a great level of autonomy and even independence. The native peoples of Nueva Leon have historically had no such ties, all street gangs and competition is dominated and absorbed first by the Zetas, then the Cartel de Noreste. Most cartels provide their own drug trafficking, loading vehicles in their home regions and ferrying them through U.S points of entry along the border, or have it shipped out of Mexican ports. They also employ the street/prison gangs to facilitate this, the dual-citizenship of many newer members from the United States serving them well in crossing border checkpoints. For example, while the prison gang Border Brothers (22) operate a huge network of smugglers, distributors and retailers across the entirety of California working as a pipeline for the Arellano-Félix Organization, they also provide the same to the Sinaloa factions while retaining their own independence. The past decade has shown how important border towns such as El Paso, Nogales and Tijuana are for the larger Mexican cartels such as the Jalisco Cartel, Noreste cartel and the Sinaloa cartel. From these places they flood the local markets of BB, BA and Sureno street gangs among many more with high quality heroin, cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamines. Although outdated, this map is a perfect representation of how drug routes are intended to work And how cartels have areas of influence. Direct cartel operations and business in the United States is run according to hub-and-spoke principles, where all product comes across the border to a centralized warehouse or network, this is the hub. From there it is distributed out towards individual actors or satellite organizations within the U.S. operation like the Border Brothers gang. This is known as a spoke, where it is further distributed to customers. Proceeds travel back through the same channels, arriving at the hub. These hubs are frequently located on the U.S. side of the border, in places like Los Angeles, Chicago and El Paso. Other important hubs for the largest players are Phoenix, Houston, Miami, and Atlanta. The key to their success and longevity has been to follow the same sophisticated routines for a long time. All major places of import relies on these cartel controlled cities, ideally situated on a hub of intersecting interstates like the I-10 or the I-65. This combined with their extreme levels of discretion while operating in the U.S. has allowed them to continue using the same hubs for decades. While there are instances Mexican groups take their extreme violence to the public eye like the kidnappings in San Diego by Los Palillos, who started their life under the Tijuana cartel but split after the murder of their leader El Palillo, this remains extremely rare. In most, if not all cases this type of behavior leads to the downfall of all involved. The threat all cartels come under by being labeled narco-terrorists is something resting heavily on the minds of every individual involved. The few who get away with this behavior are exclusively part of low level street gang activity, who partake in this seemingly ever increasing phenomenon of gun violence. Likewise, it is extremely rare for an organized, involved individual to engage police in gun battle. This will generally only ever happen in moments of severe desperation, as a last ditch effort for their leaders to escape apprehension. Lower profile members might sporadically have confrontations with law enforcement but this usually results in that person's death or large scale manhunts that make it impossible to operate within any semblance of society. When it comes to the United States of America and groups operating under Cartel banners to actively distribute narcotics, launder money, transport money, smuggle people in and smuggle weapons back to Mexico, there’s a huge list of subsidiary plenipotentiaries inside of the United States of America. The biggest thing to remember when it comes to USA based plenipotentiaries though is, most of the operatives inside of that USA based group aren’t official members of the Cartel itself that’s located in Mexico but instead use their name to advertise and market as a strategy for Narconomic Development. Los Tigres (AFO/CAF) Los Chapitos (CDS) La Linea (NCDJ) Border Brothers 22 (AFO/CDS) Barrio Azteca Vieja Escuela (CDS) Barrio Azteca Nuevo Escuela (NCDJ) Grupo Ensenada (AFO/CAF) Tango (CDN/NCDJ/CDG) PRM (CDS/CDN) WHAT IS A PLENIPOTENTIARY? Plenipotentiaries are basically sub-factors of Cartels from Mexico, that mainly operate in foreign land such as the European and American continent. In the late 2010's they became really popular factors for Cartels to distribute narcotics across the foreign nations, and in the U.S.A especially. Normally plenipotentiaries are made up of countless different crews under one major dominant cell inside of a state. The dominant cell's leader acts as a representative and spokesperson between the plenipotentiary and the Cartel in Mexico itself, and may not always hold direct membership to the Cartel they're distributing for. That's a common misunderstanding, that you get "made" into a Cartel in Mexico and distribute for them. This isn't true, the plenipotentiaries in the U.S.A might use the Cartel's banner name as a way to conduct business since it may hold weight, but 95% of the time the operatives in that plenipotentiary aren't members at all. PLENIPOTENTIARIES ONLY RECRUIT MEXICANS: There's a common misunderstanding that you must roleplay Mexican inside of a Narco cell that's U.S.A based. This couldn't be further from the truth, in fact quite the opposite... a lot of lower ranking operatives in the U.S.A may be of white, black, Asian, and Middle-eastern descent. Now of course the main core of the membership will consist of Mexicans, but roleplaying non-Mexican isn't far fetched aslong as your character doesn't want to rise above middle-management as that's probably the highest they'd ever achieve. AMERICA IS AMERICA, NOT MEXICO! What I mean by this is that people need to stop acting like it's Mexico. Narco operatives who operate in the U.S.A fear one thing more than getting punished by Mexican Cartels themselves, and that fear? Going to prison in the U.S.A. On LSRP's SAMP server I constantly seen people carrying guns like a gang-banger, acting reckless etc. Look, I'ma be real... traffickers rarely carry firearms. They might have something in their house, or car, or may carry when there's high tension with another group but definitely won't carry just to carry as it's too risky if they're pulled over n stop searched for no reason. Normally there's a dedicated security crew internally in plenipotentiaries that handle all of that. Another thing is openly fighting on the streets, this is a no go. You might have rival cells go head-to-head once in a blue moon in the U.S.A, but they won't be shooting down the street with M4A1s and wasting 5 magazines, dumping them into bodies. If and when rival narco groups go to war in the U.S.A (which bare in mind is very rare), they'll treat it like any Mob hit and do it clean and fast and out of sight. But wars shouldn't happen like that anyways, because the whole point of U.S.A plenipotentiary roleplay is operating as shadow operatives under the radar. Another thing that should be understood is Cartel Cells/Plenipotentiaries in the U.S.A might be distributing on behalf of a Mexican Cartel, but in the end they're in foreign land and aren't the final say there. If a Cartel Cell is operating in California for example, chances are their people are going to serve time with the Southerner Car (Mexican Mafia) essentially. Border Brothers 22 prison gang run in chapters by state, but in California all BBs serve with the Sur Car (Not to be mistaken with Oakland BBs as they're two different things). What I'm saying is, don't big dick a Security Threat Group (STG) that by right has claim to that area of influence. FEMALES IN THE NARCO UNDERWORLD Being a female in a male dominated environment can often be challenging, and sometimes almost impossible depending on the environment at hand. The topic for this part, as you can see, is females in the narco underworld, and hopefully after reading this thoroughly you’ll understand a lot more about the complexity of the topic. To start off? We’ll start talking about mannerisms and attitude and how they affect the outcome of situations, meaning we’ll talk about the way females must act. See the thing is there has been females to reach a Narco queenpin status, but it’s very rare and you know why? Because the mannerisms greatly affect the way people see you, judge you and react to you. Not to generalize a gender, but most females don’t make it to that status because they can’t get past the first step of what I’m going to mention here. When you’re a female in the Narco underworld, you must carry yourself a certain way so as to get looks from people but also not too much looks. You need to be seen as serious, fierceless and business oriented. The issue is, not many females end up meeting this requirement and most end up being messengers or sicarias (hitwomen) as they don’t have a business oriented mindset with serious driven fierceless mindsets jammed into one big comprehension. You need to be able to sit down at a negotiation and get a perfect first impression off someone, put them into a mindset of aw-ness, if you can’t do that then you’ve already failed. Another thing I've seen with female characters in Narco concepts is, a lot of them seem to be very sexual and overly feminine. This is a very controversial topic as some might take it the wrong way, but I hate to break it to you it’s the only way to say it; roleplaying your character being overly sexual and feminine is horrendous and abysmal portrayal for someone chasing a queenpin like outcome on their character. You need to remember the Narco underworld is a male dominated environment, if there’s any hint of sluttery or whoreness from your character? You risk being seen as a plaything and not taken seriously. But being too manly can also fuck it up, as you need to meet a perfect middle ground to perfectly fit that title. Most females who’ve risen to positions of power and influence in the Narco underworld, typically end up being some of the cold hearted women you’ll ever come across as they must be twice as ruthless as the men to gain respect, but also must be business oriented to keep that respect as you can’t be seen as a violent female purely, otherwise you’re no different than a hitwoman. Next we’ll talk about fashion/dress-code, looks and emotions. This is by far something I see people always messing up with, you’d think it’d be pretty obvious but to some people it isn’t. Dressing too hoodrattish and slutty can both fuck up your chances of being taken seriously, so you must find a middle ground. It means don’t wear shit like you’re gangbanging, but don’t expose too much skin and wear stripper heels because then you’re seen as a hoe. You must dress to impress, but must also keep it toned down and stuff, best way to describe it is contemporary Western attire, business casual attire or business attire fully. You could also dress in a Buchóna fashion, which is contemporary Western attire mixed with business attire and sometimes dark vibrance attire. I’m sure you’ll find the fashion style if you research it on the internet for long enough. As for looks and emotions, I don’t like restricting character development and roleplay but honestly? Don’t overdo it with tattoos either, normally people of influence in the Narco underworld don’t even have tattoos that are exposed like that. As for emotions, I get females can get very emotional at times, but you shouldn’t… under any circumstance, show dramatic emotions publicly, it can completely ruin your reputation. You need to be levelheaded, clear minded and relaxed at almost all times. SUMMARY The summary for the guide is essentially that everything basic has been run through rather in-depth but short and straight to the point. If you knew some things said on this guide, then it shows you did your research, but we’re most definitely positive that you’ve read this and came away with learning something new that you didn’t know before. The guide was a joint-op written by @Freedom Fighter, @Nuke and @EGN. Considering not many guides on Paisa roleplay have been made, it’s understandable in the end as not many people have a lot of in-depth modernized information on the topic. We figured we should share our information and knowledge with the community to help better people who’re interested in learning about the concept! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zhQA8v-FFk-6SsChn498gC3fAcPGaRu5R1-W69UX2jQ/edit?usp=sharing

  8. BASIC GUIDE TO GANG ROLEPLAY This guide will give you a comprehensible insight into the basics of gang roleplay. Information on joining a gang, neighborhood presence, character depth, feud development and culture will be covered. This guide was made to be able to be used by any type of gang be it Blood, Crip, or Sureño. Joining a gang The first question that you have got to ask yourself is ["would my character realistically join a gang?"]. Does your character's background and lifestyle realistically give him/her an incentive or reason to join a gang? Your character might join a gang for Identity or Recognition, being part of a gang allows the gang member to achieve a level of status he/she feels impossible outside the gang culture. Protection is another big reason as to why people join gangs, they live in the gang area and are, therefore, subject to violence by rival gangs. Joining guarantees support in case of attack and retaliation for transgressions. Gangs could also build a support system for your character, to the majority of gang members, the gang functions as an extension of the family and may provide companionship lacking in the gang member’s home environment. Many older brothers and relatives belong or have belonged to the gang. Monetary gain is one of the biggest reasons for joining, your character might find the gang to be the only reasonable and achievable source of income to support themselves and their family. Joining a gang could give your character a reliable source of narcotics to sell, it'd also be a way to protect your drug operation Peer pressure is one of if not the biggest reasons for joining a gang. Your character could find it impossible to avoid joining a gang because all their friends and family members are from the said gang. The gang could also be second nature to them, they've grown up around it and its the only thing they know, they're a product of their environment. How does actual recruitment into a gang work? Most people are pulled into the gang by another member's "sphere of influence". You get jumped into the gang by having an already validated gang member sponsor you and vouch for your induction. Who could realistically vouch for you to be inducted? Someone that’s in the gang already that’s of some sort of stature or has an influential force in the gang’s ranks. Stature / influence in gangs is driven by really only a few factors: tenure in the gang, age (similar to or sometimes the same as tenure),your value to everyone in the gang and it’s more influential members in the gang that have more tenure than your own character, and the respect you've gained by committing crimes in the name of the gang or doing anything that benefits it. Anyone that’s in the gang can recommend someone that isn’t in the gang be inducted into its ranks. Just being in the gang doesn’t give you the power to jump people in whenever you want though, most gang members still have to talk to their peers about said person being jumped into the gang, unless they already have a respectable amount of influence. Older members of the gang whose name hold a lot of weight in said gang are probably the only type of characters who could jump people whenever they want without having to consult with anyone else. If you’re a jumped in gang member, it’s your responsibility to take outsiders under your wing that aren't already taken by other influential members and claim them as your pups. Make them your little homie and have them carry your name. Be responsible to recommend them to be jumped in so that you can cycle fresh blood into the gang regularly. If you know an influential member or someone that’s respected by the higher ranks, tell them that you want to jump your little homie in and they’ll run it up to the flagpole . This is how you build out your circle of influence within the gang over time by having an army of members referring to you as their big homie, this will ultimately end up bolstering the influence you have in said gangs ranks. Everyone else that isn’t in the gang already, who aspires to be a member, should be trying to prove themselves to a respected member of the gang and become their little homie. I In terms of what outsiders need to do to qualify for membership: it should not always be murder. Los Santos’ counterpart, Los Angeles, has over 100,000 gang members and averages around 300-500+ murders a year. Based on these statistics it’s safe to assume that the vast majority of gang members do not have murders to their name and are not active shooters. It’s unrealistic when everyone is catching a body to get into a gang, your gang shouldn’t be filled with all killers. All you need to do is just prove to the gang that you’re willing to go lengths to wear the gang’s name. That means being quick to fight to protect your big homies or fellow members, holding guns and drugs for big homies, making money for your big homies and so on. The idea that every gang member has to fire a gun or kill someone to get into a gang is something that’s outdated in gang role play and has always been inaccurate. This doesn't mean that it's not a reasonable way to join the gang though, some younger and more reckless aspiring gang members might be eager to catch a body to earn respect/find a quicker way into the gang's ranks. Just take into account the current balance of characters within the faction, ask yourself if your character goes down this route… would it contribute to the RP and general make up of characters in the faction? CHARACTER DEPTH The biggest thing to remember about character depth is that your character is a fully functional person. They have a life outside the gang, they have family and could have a job. Your character shouldn't be an ice-cold robotic killer that's posted up on the block 24/7/365 who only talks about the enemy, it's not realistic. You should tie in the fact that your character's personal life does and will affect how they operate on a day to day basis, it'll dictate the decisions you make as a role player. Do you want a roster full of generic "all for the gang" types of characters or character's that are driven by personal motives? The latter tends to last longer and have more engaging and fun roleplay, the former tends to dry up and die out quickly. Inner faction character interactions should be what drives any faction, especially gangs, so that being said if you have characters that contrast each other the roleplay will be much more engrossing. Not everyone in the neighborhood is a menace to the community. The community itself wouldn't exist if it was like that. 95% of characters, if not all of them, shouldn't be torqued as avid rival gang killers. It just doesn't make sense. Those characters burn out quickly on the outside and spend their youth and adult years in prison. There isn’t really a generic blueprint for a “good gang character”. Instead you should look at your character as a way to show off a certain aspect of the ghetto that your gang calls home, all the characters apart of the faction should complement each other and help create a realistic portrayal of an urban American gang. The roleplay around your character should make sense and be believable at the end of the day. That isn't to say that all of us will have zero, or that most of us should have zero bodies. This is a GTA roleplay server and there's no avoiding the long list of things that causes us to kill rival faction members, noobs, trolls, etc. What this is meant to say is that you shouldn't roleplay having an insane amount of bodies to your character's name over their lifetime in-game. Not every shootout needs to be roleplayed that you came back with somebody's tombstone to your name, even if they did die scripts. Roleplay that you shot at the crowd and they scattered. Them dying means they cannot RK, and that means you can roleplay you strike fear in their crew. You can still carry a mean reputation without recording each kill as a notch on your gun. ENVIRONMENT Your character should 9/10 have been raised in your gang's neighborhood . From birth your character would have grown up learning things that your typical American kid doesn't. Your character would know what brands certain gangs wear, what street belongs to who, and just about anything that can be used to maneuver the gang ridden streets of their community. They'd know how to distinguish graffiti made by gangs. They'd know how their neighborhood and those surrounding it are carved up for gang territory. Your character would also not be new to the trend of drug abuse that runs rampant in gang infested neighborhoods . They'd most likely have friends or relatives who abuse drugs, they'd know all the nicknames for them and where to get some if the need arises. Always remember that your character is a product of their environment, their neighborhood shapes them as a person. Your character wouldn't be new to all the bad that comes with the streets like incarceration, death, and drug abuse. Even if your character hasn't experienced any of these things first hand yet, they probably know someone who has or have heard plenty of stories. Most of the time they'd feel like life doesn't have much to offer besides what's in their environment so they'd much rather jump into the streets head on. The best way to create a realistic environment for your faction is to not think about what you would do in a certain situation, but rather what someone who grew up in that type of environment would do. EVERYDAY ROLEPLAY Adding onto what was said in “character depth” it’s best to mix up what your character does regularly to prevent things from becoming mundane, repetitive, and boring. Ninety percent of your roleplay should not just be riding around looking for enemies to shoot at and get into brawls with. This is a heavy roleplay server and not some glorified TDM server. As was said in “character depth” your character's motives and life outside the gang should be what motivates what you do in character. Your character might be short for rent this month so you decided to try to figure out a way to make some quick cash or your character might just want to chill with his or her fellow gang members and reminisce on old times. Honestly, if you take into account that your character has everyday personal motives and use that to influence what you do in game? Your opportunities can be almost endless. All the shooting and beating up rivals is just something that’s done to keep the gang on top, it should not be the basis of your roleplay, your faction's quality can quickly go down the drain if it does become the basis. It can’t be reiterated enough on how important it is to make sure that you’re roleplay any actual character. PROPER PORTRAYAL Your gang's identity or culture is everything when it comes to how they operate. It determines the way they talk, dress, and interact with other gangs. It doesn’t matter if you’re roleplaying a fictional gang or real life one, it's imperative that you portray & create an environment that’s believable and could realistically exist in modern day life. For example, roleplaying a gang that drives around all day in a caravan of red/blue cars is unrealistic and a bad portrayal of what a modern gang is. Realism is an important factor when it comes to gang role-play, the basis of gang RP is making a believable gang in a believable environment with believable characters. Your gang's culture is what separates them from other gangs and makes them stand out, a gang's culture is engraved in whatever neighborhood they reside in. The culture becomes almost second nature to its residents. GANG FEUDS Gang feuds can be ignited for numerous reasons, big or small, from a girlfriend to drug money. Killing shouldn't be the first option to opt when you first interact with another gang. All feuds should be built up at a realistic pace. Don't jump straight to killing when there isn't a need to, it's just unrealistic it's also boring and throws all the build-up and potential role play you had down the drain. And even if the war escalates to the point where killing is justified, mass-murdering blocks isn't something you should be doing frequently or at early stages of the feud development, because that isn't realistic either, gangs aren't pulling navy-seal esque operations. Give your attack some thought and don't just copy what you see in the DM videos on Youtube. Move-in on one or two of them alone and shoot them down, catch one of them out of their neighborhood, spray at their houses when they aren't outside, you should roleplay the fear and paranoia of attempting to kill someone, you could be killed in the process or receive life in prison. Attacks on gangs should be used as development for your character and faction. One thing you should avoid is looking for any excuse to shoot. There are plenty more ways to let beef play out than to load up and "set the record" straight. Too many people are concerned about getting those death-ridden screenshots for thread clout that they abandon any sense of realism and development in the process. More emphasis should be put on things other than mass murdering folk. Dialogue is what drives roleplay on this server, so going out and interacting with an enemy builds good roleplay. It creates depth and history between the characters involved in the feud, making it more fleshed out and enjoyable. React to other factions with a realistic, reasonable, and well-roleplayed response, don't wipe entire blocks over graffiti and other petty reasons. It throws all possible roleplay opportunities down the drain. Also note that your gangs don't have to beef with every gang around it, if a nearby gang has the same enemies as yours you should be open to allying with them. Some gangs are on such terms that they might even share turf (Harpys 13 and the Rolling 20 bloods are a good example of this, they both feud with 18st and multiple crip gangs and share turf). Every interaction with other gangs doesn't have to end in you beefing with them, they could be potential allies or business partners. ROLEPLAY AROUND DRUGS Roleplay around drugs offers a lot to gangs, from selling them to abusing them. When it comes to selling drugs there's a lot you can roleplay around whatever drug you use. You can roleplay cutting down your drug to increase your supply which in turn increases your profits, you could also sell people underweight drugs or whatever your character sees fit. When it comes to roleplay around drugs you should be open to the fact that your character could be addicted to drugs. Drug abuse is an easy and reliable escape from the harsh realities that gang members live in, they could also use them to hype themselves up before criminal activity. The type of drugs you sell and abuse tie into your gang's culture as well. You should also take note that drugs bring the worst out of people. A lot of gang members aspire to make it big in the drug game due to it most likely being a better alternative to the limited options they have for making money. Due to it being such an easy source of income, gang members are willing to do shady things for them more than anything else. If a gang member is dead broke they might rob someone they know for their drugs, they might even go as far as to rob their fellow gang members. They might even rob their plug if they don't have enough money for a re-up. Most disputes within gangs are over drug money and if it's deep enough a gang member might be willing to kill someone from his gang over drug money. OUT OF CHARACTER The way you conduct yourself out of character is just as important as the way you do in character. OOC toxicity ruins the roleplay around a faction more than anything. It's imperative that you separate in character and out of character. Your faction should be open to roleplaying with any gang no matter who it is out of character. Communication between leaders is imperative if you want to be on the same page when it comes to what roleplay the interactions between your factions pertain. Derailing another faction's thread because you don't like them OOC does nothing but make your faction look bad. Roleplay should be the motive behind interacting with another faction, not trying to boost your OOC ego. A toxic OOC attitude does nothing but makes your faction look bad and keeps players from potentially roleplaying with you.

  10. LS:RP, originally being an edit of the Godfather, was from it's core a complicated form of cops and robbers role play. While many players found different avenues to create and play as characters with varying success outside of this meta, there is no denying that the root of the game, the majority of the player base, and the systems created to facilitate role play were all centered around law enforcement and criminal factions respectively. If you're looking for success, I believe it's important to reconcile that the GTA RP landscape seems to've changed. While I won't explicitly criticize or promote the community in saying this: I find it funny when people rail against certain systems GTA:W uses, a frequent highlight being the lack of focus the overall community has on illegal factions. With what I've observed through admittedly a low amount of play (about ~100-150 hours), I think a hard pill that many of the old guard players refuse to swallow is that you are not the majority demographic anymore. While a good amount of LS:RP players had made the trip to GTA:W, I've noticed through Discord hopping and communicating with players that a majority of them stem from more social role playing games, many of which I'd say are hardly compatible with the LS:RP C&R format. GTA:W seems to deliberately cater to these players, and rightfully so. The expectation that illegal / old guard role players should be center stage is a remnant of the attitude of old LS:RP. Frankly put: I fully believe that in order to be competitive in the market, the former approach of leaving these players to their own devices simply is no longer possible. The largest takeaway I have from my theory is that players beget players. I don't think it's reasonable to expect LS:RP to be competitive in the market if the primary goal is to simply bring the old community into the new platform. The remaining veterans aren't going to make the switch if the player counts are glaringly in favor of the communities they're already in, and the opposite demo won't make the switch unless they're compelled with very good reasoning. In both cases, you'd be asking many players to abandon relationships with the server, factions, characters, other players, assets and potentially thousands of hours of progress and whatever else that progress may entail. I think it's become far too trendy to blindly criticize GTA:W. Don't get me wrong, I have the same problems with it that you do. That being said, I've been preaching for quite some time that, while yes I think true that the community objectively has some problems, simply dismissing every idea out of Nervous' head as bad is an overly elitist, unrealistic line of thinking. Truthfully, some of the scripts regarding businesses, dynamic item creation, map markers, and static info points are downright genius, and very literally go above and beyond facilitating role play, particularly for civilian role players. In short: how does LS:RP compete with other communities in this area, which has specifically been sidelined for years and which the community may be woefully underequipped to handle?

  12. Drug dealing/trafficking Guide for STREET GANGS Drug dealing and trafficking is one of the most popular things to get involved in when you're doing gang roleplay, but the issue begins at this specific point where people force people into drug dealing to prove themselves and treat their gang factions like its an entire Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO) which is somewhat unrealistic in that sense as not everyone involved in gang politics in Los Angeles are also involved in the drug game. In fact you'd be quite surprised, a lot people want to stay away from the drug game due to the bullshit it brings with it and instead a lot of gang members resort to fraud, robberies, burglaries, etc. Now, there's a difference, in what I said as well... people normally stay away from large scaled drug ops in gangs but a pretty hefty number of people probably deal drugs on low scales such as dimebags, eighths, halves, etc. Main issue is when it comes to selling bricks and stuff, and since LS-RP has always worked with ounces; we'll use 3 or more ounces as a starter point for this then. Normally when people get involved in drugs inside of street gangs, it's selling petty amounts but deep inside normally lies a secondary foundation of big time drug dealers and trafficking (depending on the connections) within that gang. The reason I'm emphasizing this is important, because the moment you're brought into that side of the drug game a simple fuck up can land you six feet deep. Street gangs are already cutthroat to the bone as it already is, but when you involve yourself with big time drug dealers and potentially traffickers within your set then you're accepting an offer from the devil in plain sight. The reason I'm bringing this up, is because a lot of people who do large scaled drug ops inside of street gangs, tend to act like it's either the entire street gang doing it and operate like a full DTO or they ignore the realistic tensions that'd come with it. It's normally a clique inside of a gang with very few people that actually 100% know what's going on when it comes to large drug ops inside of gangs, because of how cutthroat it is and the lack of trust for people. The petty drug amounts that little homies are trapping with, probably come from big homies involved deep in the drug game and it's normally the best drug dealers that sell petty amounts that normally end up being brought inside of the gang's inner circle when it comes down to large scaled drug ops. Now I do want to say this, the drug game inside of street gangs is completely different to actual DTOs or OCGs, and tends to be a lot more grimey. Depending on if it's a Southsider gang or a African-American gang, there might not be any structure inside of the gang and the one with connections to the plugs might be the one that's "influential" at that specific time n place. This is important to remember, because if your gang has no structure and goes off of a generation structure instead of a hierarchy structure, then you could even roleplay having paranoia and trust issues with people because people can get knocked off over a female or some shit in gangs, so when it comes down to drugs it's twice if not thrice as bad as the before example. This guide might not look like your average guide, and might remind you of a mini book or something but I purposely wrote it like this so it's easier to take in everything at once. 13. @La Tweaker You make some great points. I will say the coddling of sub-par civilian roleplayers is very off-putting when roleplaying a criminal, as sometimes it can seem like admins are simply out to get you, depending on who you end up dealing with. I just hope this server has everyone on more equal footing.
    1 point
  14. That may well be true, but I do think that the server will inevitably have to cater to one or the other demographic more unless we pull off some fairly impressive balancing act. For example, do you, as an admin, take the side of the criminal who beats up a civilian wearing the wrong colored clothes and being the wrong race in the wrong neighbourhood, which isn't unrealistic or really deathmatch-y or do you take the side of the civilian who thinks he got the shit beaten out of him for no real reason because he doesn't know these things are important, since he has no interest in illegal roleplay? Siding with the criminal may leave the civilian thinking the server is biased for them, and vice versa. And in general, if people just want to roleplay with their friends and have fun and they'd really rather not have to deal with much criminality how are we going to attract them to a server where there's, probably, going to be a lot more of it, and get them to stay? All good points. It's worth saying that people had been asking for more scripted civilian jobs since, at the very least, when I joined around 2013-2014. They never came and as we well know civilian RP was mostly left to wallow in its own misery as a brave few did their best to make it enjoyable, spending what they made off savings to create whatever roleplay they could with a very limited script, having to call admins for tons of stuff and a community that frankly looked at most businesses as a place to either start retarded fights every 4 minutes or show up and rob every day with 4 AKs. I say this because it's not all about the script: the community needs a bit of a mentality shift in how illegal factions interact with eachother and the rest of the server, because in V they'll probably suddenly be doing so a lot more in player-owned businesses. Expecting people to switch servers because of a cool-looking taxi script (which I have some problems with by the way, but that's for another thread) or whatever is just not realistic, for sure. I'd very much like to see a lot more from the development team on what's being done scriptwise for legal roleplay and what if any OOC systems are going to be put into place to govern it/make sure it's going smoothly. In general it's easy to say (and I've been seeing this type of shit a lot) "it's going to be way better dude, it's in GTA V and RageMP has more possibilities etc etc" but I'd like to see some concrete systems being displayed like we got for the taxi & music. Anyways my posts aren't meant to convey that I think illegal roleplay should be favored over civilian, obviously in a perfect world the three sides are well balanced, just that it may not be very viable for LS:RP as a server that always kinda prided itself on the quality of its illegal/legal roleplay (at least in the heyday) to follow down the path of World. Like you said, why would people leave their friends and factions to join a server that's doing all the same stuff?

  15. As long a Paleto Bay & the other cities outside of Los Santos are not treated like Redneck county, I'm happy. Me and the few are going to roleplay that the area's influenced by the Bay Area so we'll see how that's going to play out.
