Gazura
1996 to Present Day. The Bilingsgate Misfits (often abbreviated BGM) is a street gang in Rancho, Los Santos that originated in 1996 with founders Devon Ledbetter, Michael Sheffield, Cassie Oum, Guillermo Lopez and Daniel Lions among others. The group reached minor significance in the early 2000s. At its conception, the gang consisted of young men and women attending Los Santos High School. The gang grew to include other locals along Innocence Boulevard and the upper half of Jamestown Street, the same territory that they claim to represent. The Misfits were not represented by any specific ethnicity or culture, and instead pursued recruiting Jamestown locals to further increase its grasp on its own territory, as well as pursue its business efforts. They concern themselves more with self-preservation than outward hostilities, but have history of violent activity among other gangs and police. The original members consisted of a small clique in Los Santos High School. Michael and Devon got their start selling drugs, namely prescription pills and marijuana, to other students. happened to be locals who often stood alongside the two and often got involved with and assisted their business. After many of the founding members were expelled from high school, they resorted to rapidly expanding their drug trade to support themselves without high school degrees. Over time, the group saw more local recruitment and they developed more internal organization. Loosely formed ranks were made to ensure things went smoothly as the Misfits' numbers rose and they expanded their business to begin distributing PCP, MDMA, and methamphetamine. As they grew, so did opposition as the gang claimed Jamestown Street and the corner of Innocence Boulevard that surrounded the Bilingsgate Motel. This lead to an increase in violent activity, especially in attacks from and against local gangs as they hold their neighborhood territory closely. The gang grew rapidly and eventually saw a small group of the most veteran Misfits began handling firearms deals for distribution among its members in the name of self-defense, as well as resale. This got the attention from dealers of both illicit drugs and weapons which resulted in the murder of a veteran Misfit. The retaliation thereafter lead to the peak of the gang's violence, and ultimate downfall for the Misfits. Attacking a restaurant owned by the men who killed their member resulted in the death of 8 people involved, including two Misfits. The following investigations by the LSPD would lead to the incarceration or death of many leading members of the gang and ultimately the dissolution of the original Misfits. The Misfits see a rapid resurgence as Kieran Ledbetter and David Lopez, the sons of Misfit ringleaders, aim to relive the lives of their fathers. Gazura
Out of Character. The Misfits are represented by members of its community, comprised of residents in the Bilingsgate Motel and the surrounding Jamestown area. The members also frequent the liquor store down the street, and claim the specific corner as well. Graffiti, both new and faded over 25 years, can be found on nearly all public property on the block, especially in the nearby alleyway, though they leave the church largely untouched. Focusing on a sense of community and survival in a city wrapped in poverty, the Misfits' ultimate goal is self-preservation. No specific ethnicity, race, gender, culture or age define the Misfits - but rather their home does. If you call the area home, you are welcome. My goal for the Misfits was to create an avenue of illegal roleplay that accepted a broad range of characters, to unite different archetypes (thugs, punks, rebels, outcasts, bikers, parents, druggies) under one street-gang styled faction that they otherwise would not be able to participate within. While the culture is largely 'urban', the Misfits is largely still in its infancy within the universe. The faction as a whole can be molded and influenced by the members within, truly making the gang's identity, history, and culture organic and a product of the members and players themselves, allowing character development and storytelling to flourish. Recruitment is handled in-character and typically reserved for those within the area, with some exceptions. If you're interested in playing a brand new face, players can interact with the gang in-character and recruitment can move from there. Otherwise, you can speak with me and other leadership on having a pre-established history with the group. Inspiration is drawn from the 1979 film The Warriors and old friends from my hometown of Memphis. You can contact me via Discord if you are interested.
