Sucia.
This topic follows the character development of Katarina and showcases a realistic portrayal of a female Mexican American teenager within a Latino-American community that is being infested by a local Sureños gang known as 38th Street. Spoiler Katarina was born and raised in a typical third-generation Mexican-American family living in the gang ridden neighborhood of El Corona, she stays with her mama and her abuelita. She grew up surrounded by gang-bangers, drug dealers but also hard working trabajadores, some of her cousins and uncles are deeply involved in gang-banging while some steered away from that path. Because of this, she fully understands the culture thinking that it’s just part of their way of life, where the sound of helicopters at night and gunshots is normalized. And being with the homeboys and homegirls and kicking back feels like being with her family. However, unlike others, she’d rather keep her head down, go to school or work honest part time jobs instead of getting her hands dirty. She prefers to avoid violence and has low-key disdain to fiends and narcos that pushes drugs to the locals in her neighborhood. Tho, she doesn’t care if its sold to white people who are often the primary customers. Even though she tries to be a good girl in the barrio, keeping it real and struggling to make ends meet with her mama and abuelita. She is still susceptible to be dragged into the life and be another victim of the perpetual cycle of gang violence.
